Hello!

When I connect external hard drive to Mac and it displays Disk Image on desktop, is it safe to just click on it, open the external hard drive from there and access Time Machine files from there?

It is safe as long you do not modify anything (the system will try to stop you). However, if you want to restore a file, I recommend you do this with the Time Machine application.

Would just copying file to desktop be safe?

It is safe, but not recommended. Finder is not that savvy and simplifies how Time Machine actually looks under the bonnet. Best use the Time Machine application.

Thank you.
As long as I only open the disk image external hard drive to see what is inside, itś fine, just better do not touch or open any file in it?
