Hi All -- this is a completely 'newbie' question, but I'm afraid to do something that'd screw up my (new) MacBook.
I've downloaded Fink and followed the instructions to install. I'm on Leopard, so I had to install from source since no binaries are available yet for OS X 10.5. I ended up with a "fink-0.28.1.tar" file in my Downloads folder. I untarred this file and got a folder "fink-0.28.1". After going into this folder I ran "bootstrap" to install.
My question is this: is it now safe to delete the original tar file and the folder "fink-0.28.1" from my downloads folder?
In general, I download programs as dmg/packages into my download directory. When I run them, they often produce app files in that same directory, and sometimes they produce extra folders. I know that I can move the .app file into my application folder, but when do I delete/also move any extra folders that are created?
Thanks,
Flip
