I am a little hesitant considering all the previous news coverage on radiation, etc. I plan to buy a Japanese music CD from Yesasia.com and want to know if it's safe to get stuff from Japan at this point.

How far is the company your buying your stuff from the plants?

I'm sure you'll be fine. Almost all goods coming into the US must be scanned for radiation.

Now security is so tight that roughly 4,000 times a day, steel containers from arriving ships are loaded onto tractor-trailers that, before hitting the highway, must pass through giant radiation detectors designed to sniff out nuclear bombs.

US ports spend big on post-9/11 security

You'll be fine.

The worst risks are from people eating stuff that's been grown/raised near the plant - you won't be in any danger handling CDs.

Are you getting anything good? I've bought quite a lot of stuff from Play-Asia.com and found them pretty good (they're based in HK too). I've bought a load of Ayumi Hamasaki albums from both them and also Amazon.co.jp (it's no problem setting up an account there, even if you're not in Japan). Both Play-Asia and Amazon stock the CD/DVD combination albums with videos (which are cool). I found Amazon to be a bit cheaper.
