It has integrated speakers, so there should be a magnetic field around it. Does anyone know if this field is strong enough to damage data on the HDD under the display or not?

It's perfectly safe. It takes an extremely powerful magnet to damage data on the HDD. You're not likely to ever encounter such a magnet.

    It's fine.

But you remind me of my mother who always told me never to stand in front of the microwave while it was on.

    Thank you!
I just don't want to loose data because of my carelessness, especially if I can prevent it :)
