The 5c is barely still usable now. Keeps getting crippled by receiving less and less features than newer devices.
I've got one and I'm really debating on upgrading to the 6s+
Ie ad blocking, wifi calling,

Hehe, it'll be enough for me. I'll basically turn off all the data-using features except for select few so as to say within my cap. If anything, I might upgrade for +$5/month and get 300mb.
I will say, to Microsoft's credit, their Data tracking app trumps anything Android or iOS has to offer. It's too bad you can't set monthly limits on iOS. I was hoping iOS 9 would change that. Nope, it actually does the opposite. By default, iOS 9 will prioritize Data over WiFi if the connection is slow. You should all be checking into that.
There's an option to turn off data assist, which uses data when wifi signal is weak.

Don't buy a 5c, save money and get a 5s like everyone's been saying. It's worth it, even if you aren't going be using it to the full extend.

Look, guys, please understand. I was content planning on following your advice and buying the 5s.
I didn't.
But let's just leave it at that. Anyone else who is in my position but has a bit more money and knows $.02 about buying phones should buy the 5S. So thank you, we all now know that the 5C is no longer considered a good option.

Except, I actually don't see the problem with it. I haven't owned an iPhone in my life so I don't know what I'm missing. I'm happy with it, in fact. Quite happy. I even got a cool wallet cellphone case.

So, thank you for your advice, I'm sorry I didn't follow it. But your advice was not given in vain, anyone else in my situation can happily find this thread.
Thanks a lot guys!

Seriously, I didn't just read this and go "haha i already knew i was going to do it so lol"
I actually started looking for used 5S' and stuff. Except I had to get my phone replaced on Saturday and another problem I have to deal with is my parents. Even though I'm a month away from turning 20, I still live at home and my parents pay my living expenses (while I'm at college, not just freeloading). For that, I will happily "put up" with some of their idiosyncrasies. One being that my parents are adverse to online shopping and would definitely give me trouble for purchasing a used 5S online (with my own money). My father was loathe to even allow me to buy a phone.
Whatever, I'm not going to be a brat.

Oh well.

The phone is already 3 years old so no, I doubt it'll last another 3 years. I think it will be fully usable for one more year with iOS 9. Before you think I'm being a drag, realize that 4 years is a lifetime of use in the tech world. Even though it will be brand new to you, you're already behind with a 3 year old phone.

Welcome to a forum, Aki. If you think this is bad, the automotive forums would eat you alive. Understand that this is a group of Apple "latests", who knit pick every detail of a phone for their advantage, and in many ways will find incredible ways to make things work (especially the developers in the crew). Talking about a 5C is like talking about a 4S, which is now 2S iterations, or 4 years old, even though it came out with the 5 line. So take the heavy talk and walk with the advice of running a 5S.

That being said, don't let it discourage you from continuing to contribute to the crew. The internet will crap on you for only so long - or continually will if you become resistant. You said it's your first go around, so it's all good. Once you have the 5S, get to know it and see how you like it. In the future, as you get deeper through school, maybe you'll find saving for a 7 on a payment plan may help - especially when you get used to the iPhone's productivity and how it integrates with your class work. Best of luck!
