Hello there

I currently own an iPhone 6S. I would like to buy an iPhone 11 Pro. I don’t know if I should buy it now or when I come back from holidays.

I have only 15k SGD on my bank account. I have a budget of 2.5K for the phone with accessories and AppleCare.

I’m going to Australia in 5 days. I’d like to take pictures of Tasmania. I’m planning to spend 2.5K, flights excluded.

Also I’m a bit worried about iOS 13 and I’d rather wait 13.2 or even 13.3 as I’ve heard there are a lot of bugs this year.

Finally, I’m getting 13k of commission next month. I’ll get an Apple Watch Ceramic and AirPods Pro and I wonder if I should buy everything together.

What do you think, guys: should I buy or wait?

Thanks for taking the time to read my message.

Just buy the regular iPhone 11. You have two weeks after purchase to decide whether you like it. Comes with the same screen resolution and pixels as your 6s. You’re used to it so it won’t be a step back. My guess is you’ll love it

If You have to think so much before buying the phone and come up with so much calculations and mitigations then I suggest not to buy.

Smartphone purchase is more of an indulgence at this point rather than requirement of life. So it’s really supposed to be bought with throwaway money.

Maybe get the regular iPhone 11, it still has a brilliant camera, less the Wide Angle lense.

Oooor, save up more and get something later down the line when you don’t have to think so much about it.

I'd say wait till you get back from your holidays. That way you feel more relaxed and have a cooling period before jumping in.

Some of my 2 cents:
1. Are you on postpaid plans? If so, just recontract with your existing carrier.
2. Do you have citibank/posb/dbs/ocbc credit cards? Apple offers 0% installment for 12 months. https://www.apple.com/sg/shop/browse/financing
3. Why do you want the 11 Pro? Is it because of the size? If you can handle larger phone, the regular 11 is of better value imo for less, and it's already a huge leap from the 6s.
4. Last but not least, if you can, go buy the iPhone in Hong Kong instead. The Hong Kong version has two physical SIM slots, which is imo more useful in Asia. Singapore set only has 1 physical SIM slot and eSIM.

Hi there
Thanks for your message.

1) I have SIM only with M1.

2) I have DBS and I never paid “with credits”, I feel like it is debt. I’d rather pay upfront, it seems more logical for me.

3) Well, for the cameras and battery life. I waited to upgrade my phone until battery life was improved. That is the only criteria for me that is worth upgrading a phone. I’m not interested in iPhone 12 because I feel it will be a “beta” phone. I believe this year is the right time. I love traveling and I always take pictures. For instance, I was in NZ at the beginning of the year in the South Island and I took 1000 pictures. Then I went to the US & Europe but I took only 500 pictures. I like the Pro over the regular one because of the extra camera and the OLED screen. I am just worried about FaceID as I tried on a friend phone, you have to swipe-up to unlock. I thought it was unlocking and putting you directly on home screen. Maybe there is a setting for that pattern? The weight is a bit of a worry but I suppose I’ll get use to it after a week or 2.

4) HK, I haven’t thought about it! I need to check the prices and see if the conversion rate is worth it. I come from Europe and the iPhone is 7% cheaper here compared to EU prices. I’ll check what is the difference with HK prices.

I really appreciate you took the time to answer my message. I did not like the other bloke with his sarcastic comment and don’t know why he wasted his time and mine.

So I think I will wait. I’m leaving in 5 days and I don’t want to rush my decision. I might spend 3K in Oz instead of 2.5K and I feel more secure to wait for the money before buying. Also I really hope iOS will be improved. Meanwhile I’m reading a lot of info thanks to all the people here.

No problem.

Hong Kong prices are similar to Singapore prices WITHOUT GST. With GST, Singapore prices are higher. Really recommend getting HK set if possible. :)
