if like me you want a device for airplay-ing your music collection to a speaker then bang for buck there is no better device than an itouch 5g
Sure they do... give it to little kids. If it breaks or goes missing, it's not as much of a loss. Many parents aren't willing to give their 6 to 10yo an iPhone to play with instead of a more expensive iPhone. In today's world saturated with smart phones the ipod touch has no place.
The problem is, the iPhones that are cheap enough don't have very long life left. I doubt some of them can run ios8 well, let alone be able to take on ios9. The ones that are nice are still expensive.Maybe not for you, but for many it does hold a place. Until iPhones are cheap enough, the iPod Touch '(well an updated model) would hold relevance.
IpT5 goes for about $220. 32 GB. Ipad Mini 2 being an extra $80 isn't much, but still nontrivial. Finally, people like their IpT b/c they can fit it inside their pockets. Can't do that with an Ipad Mini.Sorry, but the market has spoken. The iPhone already started the decline, but the iPad(especially the iPad mini) pretty much sealed the fate of the iPod.
Don't see whats the difference in using an iPod touch vs using an iPad mini. With $299 price tag of the iPad mini 2 with retina display and A7, the iPod Touch seems like an even worse deal, updated or not.
Not only does my iPhone pretty much emulate the iPod Touch, but my iPad Air 2 serves the same function as a secondary music player with 10" retina display, A8X tri-core chip, 2GB of RAM, with 64GB of storage at the same price as the old 32GB.
Even the iPod Classic had better reasons(form factor, click wheel, unmatched storage space) to still be around than the mini-iPad-mini known as the iPod Touch.
This is just my opinion.
I remember my iPod Touch 5th Gen I bought in May 2013. It was great, but I sold it in favour of getting a smartphone, the Moto G. It's a very useful thing, you can get the experience of an iPhone while not shelling out $600+ on a phone that will become obsolete in three months (at least when I bought my iPT). I think that they definitely should make a new one.
but how much have you spent in monthly phone payments over the last couple years ?
i've chosen the same route as garirry above. my monthly sim only tariff is £5 per month. i get all the minutes and data i need with that http://store.virginmedia.com/virgin-media-mobile/sim-only/pay-monthly-sim.html
but how much have you spent in monthly phone payments over the last couple years ?
With my iPod, I paid pretty much nothing monthly. Now, I pay 25$ per two months with my new Moto G (I'm on prepaid). Before that, I had a cheap phone with a uselessly large 20$ per month plan (I barely communicate with anyone ).
$25 / 2 months is not bad.
I use a non-smartphone prepaid that cost $100 / 1000 minutes (last 1 year if not used up).
I would do that deal in a minute. Most plans here with a reasonable amount of data etc go for $60.00 / month or up. That means that most people are paying around $1500 for the two years of service. I think that paying $299 for a Touch 5 (even with outdated hardware) is a better deal.
I think, tim cook won't release ipod touch 6th anymore..he is trying to force us to buy iphone for listening music..so,in the end..i decide to buy 64gb ipod touch 5th gen to replace my ipod classic..but, is it too late?
Other people have posted here that the audio quality of the Moto G is much worse than the Touch 5 so I'm not sure that it would be an option for me.
Yeah the stereo crosstalk as reported on GSMArena is horrible compared to the iPod Touch. Haven't heard it but I'm pretty sure it will be fairly noticeable.
For those who have an ipod touch 5 like me, try running the youtube app (latest version available for ios 8), then rotate the device, horizontal or vertical, that will tell you the age of the device..![]()
I have had a nasty habit of traveling international of late. Well, the past 4 or so years. I love my iPod Touch. I wouldn't give it up for anything. I use it pretty much exclusively on transcon flights, and loops out of LAX or JFK. I try to give enough of a layover to charge the thing, just in case, before I make the big leap, and it works out very well.
If you need it now, go buy it.
I've a touch 4gen, a basic phone (to ocasional calls and without month payments) and i dont need smartphones for nothing.
PS: Without future on this device, bye bye Apple, hello Android!
I agree, the touch is great for international travel, and with wifi you can imessage / call / Skype back home for FREE! No international roaming fees or anything, unlike my iphone friends get. But the battery life and RAM need to be upgraded. I am on an ipt 4 and am holding out for a 6 with more RAM so safari and my apps don't crash and for a faster processor and greater battery life. I have to charge my 4 daily. However, if you turn off wifi and just listen to podcasts during your flight, it lasts a long time. Have you found some good travel headphones? I bought some Emotics but haven't been too impressed..
