not so crazy

Small, light weight, built in modem and best of all a flat screen (not glossy) which is great if you work anywhere that has light or sun. I travel a fair amount and I'm still waiting for a 13" non glossy screen.

You guys are right....

I had a nice long talk with my only mac using friend and we weighed the advantages and disadvantages of all the available models.
I settled for the $1,399.99 refurb macbook pro. It's a bit over budget but I (and my friend agrees) that spending that much money on a powerbook would be a waste. I'm hoping for a magical upgrade on my refurb (hopefully RAM upgrade) If not my friend pointed out that I can just pull the RAM from my Intel iMac (which is going into storage) and stick it in the macbookpro.

Thanks for all the advice! This forum is always so helpful, despite my indecisiveness :)

That's one heck of a machine for your money really.

Enjoy it!

Go with a 12" ibook or the 12" PB. Small. WOnderful. And I do have to say, even though the iBook's best CPU is 1.33 compared to the 12" PB's 1.5ghz, I could tell you i think they are identical in my own comparisons because the iBook takes 1.5gbs of ram while the Powerbook can only take 1.25. It really bugs me that the 12" PB gets chintzed on ram.

BTW, whatever laptop you get, get a ZEROSHOCK case. Last week my 12" PB flipped off a table, in its case, and landed without a scratch on the floor. Get the Zeroshock with the internal frame. Great case.

I think a 12" PB is a good choice. I was going through my Mac inventory at my home and got rid of my iBook and Ti PB to make room on my desk and have available space for the future upgrade on my set up.
12" iBook is a little larger than 12" PB (Radtech sleeve for iBook is loose fitting for PB; good thing I have Radtech sleeve for 12" PB as well).
Also I noticed 12" iBook is louder with fan noise compared to 12" PB. Also, PB's keyboard is much better than iBook in terms of typing feel. I noticed this now that I replaced iBook with PB as my daily computer (in the past, PB was on the iCurve, as it was used as a desktop unit prior to my set up change).
