I still use talk quite a bit, mainly for work. Most personal communication is done via texts.

Phone use first

Camera second

GPS from time to time

E-mail rarely

Safari web surfing rarely

Music never

Texting never

Movies never

YouTube never

I have a really nice Apple desktop for the other stuff, and no strain on the eyes

Big waste of money, but I can afford it. ;)

I barely use it to talk to people, as I don't really like talking on the phone too much. If I do want to talk to someone, I might do it on Skype. That being said, I have it for emergencies or when I need to tell someone something important fast. It's still important to have vocal conversations, especially for significant others and family.

That being said, I really do wish and hope that cellular companies will release text/data-only plans. Seems kind of inevitable at this rate, I think.

We use our mobiles instead of our house phone which we only have for broadband but even then am lucky if use more than 10 minutes per week. If our house phone rings we usualy ignore it as usually telesales :-(

I would estimate around

30% camera and viewing photos (am a photo junkie and have 3 cameras but love my iPhone to catch photos on the go - huge Hipstamatic fan!)
25% browsing and e-mails
25% using apps such as facebook, tumblr, myfitnesspal, fitbit, sky+ remote, parking payments, bus tracker, eBay
15% music
5% phone and texting

I average 10 minutes of talk a month. It works out nicely since the other 2 lines on the shared plan are women ;-)

For many communications, e-mail, texting, and various messaging services are more efficient than phone calls / voicemails. We all have been calling less in recent years due to technology. However, having access to a phone remains vital. I use 25% of my minutes at most, but still need a phone occasinoally.

Facetime is interesting. When we all watched star trek it was so cool that people could video chat.

Facetime is even more intrusive than a phone call though. Reserved for really important people.

Mainly use phone for work purposes only. Otherwise its main use is texting, web, social, music, games, alarm, gps, etc.

I use the phone the most. Quality speakers, clear connection, and HD Voice are important.

Hd voice? What are you talking about? Cell phone voice audio hasn't improved in 30 years. Try FaceTime audio if you want to hear hd voice.

Why do you have a smartphone?

----------

It's called an ipod touch.

Let me know when they offer LTE data on an iPod touch and I'll go right out and get one :)

50% - Phone usage
30% - Turning on and off screen to look busy + listening to Music
20% - Browsing/App downloading and deleting cause lets face it, majority is just plain BS - except dots and google services. Thats cause I have access to a macbook most of the time at work/home. Only time I get to use the phone is during lunch breaks/subway.

Why do you have a smartphone?

Like I said, I can afford it. And just in case I need some of the other functions I will have them.

I personally don't use it a lot. Why would I if I could just use FaceTime? Everyone basically has an iPhone so it's not really necessary to use the low-quality phone option.

i wish that was the case. 1/3 of my friends have androids. its really sad and pathetic everytime i text and theres a green bubble. it just feels so....wrong

My phone is primarily used as a stopwatch for exercise and texting. I don't have that many people to call, to be honest. Otherwise, I probably would use that feature more.

I do use the phone part of my iPhone but the ratio is probably 90/10. 10 being the amount of time I use the phone in relation to everything else.

Why have a smartphone if you don't even text?

If you really think it feels wrong that your friends have a different phone then you, you have a serious problem and need to be put in a hospital.

I prefer not to speak on the phone but occasionally have to call services such as my doctor who does not communicate via email w/ clients.

So I would rather just pay for voice so that it is available when I need it. 90% of the time I just listen voice mail & respond to caller via txt or email if possible.

It's no coincidence that carriers tend to offer huge numbers of *minutes* (and unlimited mobile-to-mobile even on smaller plans) but don't allow such freedom for data. Most people won't use the minutes anyway.

I've had my 4S since Jan '12.

I'm not sure if that's a lot or not but I feel like I'm on my phone quite often.
