Yes over a certain period of time using your keyboard can get shiny because of all of the body oil on your fingers. Its nothing to really worry about unless it bothers you

lolis it true that our keyboard keys will have a finishing touch to the matte keys to a shiny keyboard? who has a shiny keyboard keys? lol
I used to think it was due to oily fingers and would clean my fingers and keyboards all the time...maybe too frequently at times. Once I joined a mechanical keyboard community I found out it's more often due to friction from fingers. The solution mechanical keyboard owners use is to lightly sand the keys to reduce/remove the shine. Search those communities for specifics. I haven't done it yet.

Yep, shiny.
I'll try it on my 2013 this weekend and see how it goes. If I actually finish the project I'll post pictures to the thread.I am not sure I would recommend that. At least not with the new ones. My 2018 has a number of keys that are shiny after 6 months and a couple for which the paint is chipping away from the letters. I think sanding, even light sanding would not yield good results.

That's pretty bad. I would take those in under warranty if I was experiencing the same issue. My 2013 doesn't even look that worn. That's really unfortunate. I'm sorry you're experiencing that level of "quality."
I wish, but Apple considers it “cosmetic” and won’t do jack about it. Can’t wait to see what it looks like at the 1 year, 2 year, 3 year mark.
Unless it fails, I am stuck with it
My original 2018 that I had had the same problems with the A and left Command key. When Apple replaced it (that you are well aware of), I put a silicone cover on it to prevent the shiny keys. It makes it a bitch to type on, but since I used it docked most of the time anyway, I figured it was worth it. The shiny keys drive me nuts.
