Is it worth buying 5k basic modals from 2014 or 2015? Can you do basic gaming on them and what would be the games you would recommend? I was thinking about games like Great theft auto and stuff like that. I know Macs are not made for gaming. As in the as Linus video, he says that 2gb on the card is not enough for a 5k iMac.And he is using an 8gb card?
plus the fact he says he says the 5k throttles.
I found out that I could use my Apple thunderbolt display with a 5k iMac on the Apple support forum.I asked this question on here but no one answered it but as you can see i can use my Apple thunderbolt with 5k.If i was to get a 4k 21 i am right to assume assume the 4k would show up smaller than the 5k on my Apple thunder bolt display?

They should play GTA V. That's a pretty old game which came out around the time they did. You'll have to crank the settings down some for 60FPS. Obviously you won't play at 5K. But 1920x1080 should be fine. As for modern games. The 2014/15 base GPU seems to be about the same as a GeForce GTX 750 Ti. I'd expect them to play games about as well as the 750.

Not sure what you're asking about the monitors. If you have scaling turned on. Items like text should appear the same on a 21" 4K as a 27" 5K. As they have nearly equal PPI. You just have less screen real estate.

That is what I wanted to know. :)I think I will leave 2014 Imac out as I heard of the problem of overheating
.Why are there so few refurbished 27 iImac.s?When I see so many 21 ones?

"Why are there so few refurbished 27 iImac.s?When I see so many 21 ones?"

My guess:
Many people bought "stock" model 21" iMacs, with platter-based hard drives inside, and were very dissatisfied with the speed -- they were very slow.

I'd avoid 2014/2015 iMacs due to reported screen "burn in" issues.
Get an Apple refurbished 2017 instead...

I can see that, I don,t know why they kept on putting HDD drives in until recently. And Evan the Fusion drive,s which the later ones only had 32ssd? :oops:I have heard of the burn problem and see it is to do with the Lg screen how would you know you had an LG screen or Samsung on an IMac?
Thanks for your info.

The base 21" is $1,099 and the base 27" is $1,799. That's going to attract a big difference in the number of buyers for each thus number of returns. Also people trying a Mac for the first time are more likely to go for the 21".

I have seen an advert on eBay for an iMac and the guy says *it is hanging?`*he said he had lots of photos on there. I have messaged the guy but no response yet. He says it is good condition.

some game benchmarks in windows for the m375 and m390 cards. The m380 model is significantly less powerful than the other 5k imacs.

Dialing down the resolution to 1280x720 may help.

barefeats also tested the 2015 imacs with various older mac titles.

I got a result:) I sent a message to the seller saying I did not receive it I left it for 7 seven days after the date it was expected. I said I did not expect it after all that time so I asked for a refund. Not long after that, I get a message from eBay saying the seller will give me a full refund I guess I he could not have sent it after I changed my mind all though he said he did, I thought it was a bit funny there was no tracking on the order. That is a weight off my mind.

I will be more careful next time, and get one with a guarantee. I will take your advice and go for 2017 modal and go for one with a guarantee:)

I will go for this one it gets good reviews even the base modal the one I will buy,
anything Jeff says is good by me. :)

Bought the 27" 2017 iMac when it first came out. Base RAM. Factory installed 500GB SSD. Post-purchase bought 2x8GB DIMM from Crucial to increase RAM to 24GB installed.

That,s what I will do get 2x8 ram that is. Unfortunately, it does have the 1Th fusion drive. But that is no problem as I have a 1TB Crucial M.2 Nvme external drive so I will be able to use it in the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port. :)

Same thing -> but put in a 2TB. Put all of my media (music/photos/ et al.) on it to save space on the SSD.

I don,t know whether to go for this 27 iMac 2017 3.4 8gb 1Tb Fusion with a 1-year warranty or a private seller with the same modal but with 24gb and a 250 SSD .both the same price This has been well looked after and is in great condition. so says the private seller I think the advert had been taken down but it is now up again, I was looking for it but thought it had been sold. So what do you think?
