Is it worth buying a m1 MacBook Air that has a damaged screen for $270 here in Chicago just to be able to have Tahoe and ai so I could cut my work day to maybe an hour out of the whole work day or keep looking for one that does not have a damaged screen, but would be using my 2018 MacBook Air requiring much more time to be dedicated to the job. Looks like in my area the m1 macs that are undamaged still sell for $500-600.

$500-$600 is crazy. I picked up a MBA M1 512GB/16GB for just under $400 on eBay several months ago for my high school senior. I certainly wouldn’t buy one with a damaged display for more than $150, especially if you don’t plan to repair it yourself. If you don’t care about the display, buy used M1 mini.

A proper repair that preserves True Tone and uses an original LG LCD is around $300. It's a lot of work because the shop has to extract the LCD, replace the defective parts (was it water damaged?) and bond everything back together.

If you don't care about display quality, it can be done for nearly half that price by replacing the entire assembly with non-original parts.
