the only thing that's still running intel on my machine is unity hub which will be ported shortly and adobe because they suck.

If you can get a Good deal. I’m trying to sell my 16 in with 1tb and no one wants to buy it, I’ve dropped the price to 1700 and no messages on swappa or fb or cl. I’m waiting for the trade in deadline from apple cause I may just turn it in for 1350. The values have really tanked so crap a good deal if you can.
And it's gotten worse. There are almost 100 16" MacBook Pros on Swappa today. I am looking at getting a new MacBook and my Intel i7 with 32Gb and 1Tb is only worth $1200 in trade with Apple

He's trolling us. ;)

I mean unless you like smoking crack...

Dude and just in case you're NOT trolling us, the older machines the Keyboards go bad right under 3 years. I had 2017 and 2019 both did the same thing (real use).

So unless you know someone who used theirs for 2.5 years (w Care) and said HEY fix this left Command key and "S" key, which means $99 AppleCare covered "new top replacement"

Your keyboard's gonna blow... I mean I honestly think for the 5 year crowd, Apple (is wanting customers to get the 3 year AppleCare) and then at the 2.5 year mark fix the keys/top, then go another 2.5 and get your 5 YEARS of HEAVY USE...

The 16” MBP was released in November of 2019 and always had the better scissor-switch keyboard. It never had the failure-prone butterfly keyboard of the 2016-2019 15” MBP.

NO because the Intel runs sloppy with Monterey and the M1 runs super smooth. There is no way you could convince me to go back to Intel. I do own 2 powerful Intel PCs though and they run super smooth with windows.

is this the 2019 16" trade value at apple? Because I traded a 16" base for $1210 at apple on Oct 31
Trade was good cause I only paid tax on the additional amount after trade.

I’ve heard that you don’t get any more for having higher RAM. Not sure about SSD but would not be surprised if its the same. That’s a bit of a kick since Apple prices their RAM upgrades so much.

Its thinner

32gb ram

2 tb hdd

I9

5500 8gb

The question is how long will apple support it? A good few years?

Worst case scenario ill get the new one but would any of you still get the older one?
Apple will support a new one for a year, and at 3 years if you get AppleCare guaranteed. Personally, I think it is going to be around 5 years before Intel based Macs will start to lose support. We will probably continually see features in macOS start to make a divide between Apple Silicon and Intel, but consider, they still sell Mac Pros, and the largest iMac with Intel TODAY. So, until all models are replaced with Apple Silicon, there shouldn't be an end-of-support date for Intel specific Macs.

If the price is right, and you need a feature (such as x86-64 virtualization or BootCamp), you would have to get an Intel model, as you just won't be able to do that easily (if at all) on an Apple Silicon system. If you need external GPU support, then you also have no choice.

I just ordered a new M1 Max 16" MPB on 20 Nov (should be here by around the 15th) to replace my 2019 16" MacBook Pro (Core i9, 16 GB, 1 TB, and 5500 8 GB). I am not currently using BootCamp, and the only app I use that I am concerned about not working well on the Apple Silicon model is Unreal Engine. I do use a Parallels Windows VM but really on need 1 Windows app (Quicken) now, but I am hopeful that I can get it working via Parallels with Windows 11 ARM edition.

Another reason to stick with Intel is for games. With a good discrete GPU and BootCamp support, you are going to have way more success with games than any Apple Silicon Mac at present. That may change, but I don't expect to see much effort taken by devs until at least the Apple Silicon desktops are out.

Good luck!

I got the last G4 Powerbook revision before the transition to Intel, I have always regretted that decision.

Buy the Apple silicon one or, even better, the Rev.2 of the same...

lol ouch - that must have really sucked!

On the bright side, I don't quite think having an old Intel Mac will be as bad as having an old PPC Mac. There is just so much widespread support for Intel, I can see it being useful for a bit. I do wonder how long Apple will provide Intel compatibility though. The PPC support wasn't that long really.

I have a 16" I9 and I expect it to be supported for at least another 3-4 years until 2025-2026.

That said, I would not buy a new one if I needed to buy a MBP today. I also have a 13" M1 and it is an amazing little laptop, smooth, quiet and cool. Fans never run. I have seriously considered swapping the 16" for another 13" but I work all day on the 2 laptops and the 16" screen is much nice for all day work.

When going through the Apple Trade in Questionnaire, they ask about storage size but not about RAM

This is true and that’s why I don’t believe upgraded ram gets you more on trade-in

Further complicating the question of whether to spend $400 for a ram upgrade if I’m not absolutely sure I’ll need it

I wish Apple cooled it down a little with the upgrade prices, it’s really an f you to the customers the way it is set up now. It has made me decide I’m going to try to stick with base models. They’re so powerful now that it will be more than enough. The people that do really intensive graphics and video work are the ones that should be shelling out for expensive upgrades, and they can justify it as a business expense.

Those trade-in prices are never the best price you could get by selling directly but you pay for the convenience and security.
Well to be honest I tried selling on CL, FB marketplace, offer up and I could not find a buyer! I waited too long I should have sold before the m1 pro came out. There was someone offering 1450 for it, but with apple offering 1350 I decided to just go with apple for less headaches.

AND, after a certain quantity, storage doesn’t get you anything more either. Got more than 2 TB? Nice, we’ll offer you the same price as 2 TB, tho. :)

My Intel i9 16" MBP has been sitting in the closet for the past several weeks ever since I picked up my 16" M1 Max. It's no contest - the M1 Max smokes it in every way.

I've got an i7 with the 5300M and I think I've heard the fans once. Maybe.

The real question is what your reason for wanting it is.
Do you use an external monitor? I had the exact same machine and it ran hot just by plugging a monitor in.
