The iPhone 5 is available here in Ireland for €679 off contract, but locked to a network, no network in Ireland have LTE, is there a point paying that much for being unable to use LTE?

As said before, LTE capability is just one feature of the iPhone 5, I would have still gotten it even if LTE wasn't available in my area.

My carrier supports 4G LTE. I have an iPhone 5 but I'm on the 3G network. I just don't care for LTE at all. To answer your question, it is worth getting the iPhone 5 with no LTE.

I went from iPhone 4 to 5 and for me the jump was worth it. With the faster processor you notice web browsing is much snapper. Most of the time I'm on wifi, but I've noticed 3G is better than before (although still with O2 for now). Go for the new phone if you can or want to, but only you can say if its worth it for you.

Yes and no. Lte is the best feature on the phone, imo. I wouldn't give up unlimited data to continue on with 3G. I doubt this would be a problem for you, though.

If you've already decided to buy and you are trying to decide between the models, the iPhone is still clearly head and shoulder above its predecessors.

Swiss User here.

We don't have LTE either, but with my iPhone 5 I get:

7 Mbps Download
2 Mbps Upload
42 ms Ping

with 3G... it's practically the same as my DSL (I have 10Mbps Down, 1.5 Mbps Up and 20ms Ping)...

so I wouldn't worry too much about LTE.

7Mbps or 7MBps? Huge difference you know… though you said you don’t have LTE so it is likely 7Mbps but I wouldn’t know.

Wifi is a LOT faster on the 5 and overall the device is a lot better...so I would say yes. I don't have LTE near me...so I still use 3G near home (LTE near work tho)...and It's great! With the added CPU speed and additional RAM even 3G feels faster since pages load faster.

Good choice. Isn't there a 3 IE? In the UK 3 users get around 15Mbps on 3G with the iPhone 5. It is significantly faster than the 4S.

Yep, I'm on 3 Ireland at the moment, If I top up by €20, I get unlimited data, unlimited texts, and unlimited Calla at weekends and I get to keep the €20 for calls during the week, there data speeds are pretty good.

Highly subjective…

What do you do with you iPhone? the only thing I can think of is tethering. That would be another world with LTE, but otherwise...

If I'm lucky I go through a couple of GB on my iPhone, while on my PC it's more like 40 or 50... with a 10Mbps dsl.
I don't need LTE speed at home, why would I need it on a seriously limited device like the iPhone?

I run my business on it. Essentially, my home button is half broken due to multi-task switching. I am always doing mails, lots of invoices, lots of messaging, calling, tethering when not on calling, alerts of invoice notifications and much more.

On wifi, I end up using about 700MB a day in total in/outgoing.

If there are no LTE there, then your question is invalid. It doesn't matter if a free phone has LTE and the iPhone does not, you wouldn't be able to take advantage of it.
