I'm currently chugging along with the ATI 5770 but I am an inkling to upgrade to the ATI 5870.

One of the main reasons is that I'd like to run a 3 monitor setup. Well its really a 2x monitor + 1 HDTV.

Right now I'm running an NEC 23" and a 24" samsung monitor/hdtv but when I connect my 40" sony bravia onto the 2nd mini display port it does not pick up. Is it due to the fact that the ATI 5770 cannot handle this many resolutions?? Will the ATI 5870 able to handle this?

As I understand it, the 5870 is going to help with 3D graphics and gaming. Unless that's what you're doing, you're probably better off with two 5770's (then you'd have 2GB of GPU RAM).
