well here is the thing. I kind of NEED it. Because i do a lot of audio work with Logic pro. And I always used to get core audio crashes. And upon reading about this, I found out that It had a lot to do with the hard drive speed. I have only one Factory hard drive in it. and EVERYTHING works off that drive. So Im planning on doing the System/apps off of the SSD. and maybe a couple of other drives for Audio samples only and another for the projects and maybe another one for video editing and other stuff. I really want to get the most out of this mac.

really here's my question.

Will any SSD work on my Mac? thats my real question.

Another question for the awesomeheads here.

My ssd boot drive. How much do I need. would 60gb be enough?

Im going to install Leopard, logic 8 and maybe a couple of other apps.

lol, "awesomehead". I like.

60GB... could be plenty for a boot drive, it will certainly fit the core system and apps on it. How much have you got in your applications folder?

everytime I check it doesn't tell me the size. When I press, get info, it says calculating.

But I went ahead and bought some really good SSD's today. they are one of the highest rated. And they were pretty well priced. about 144 shipped each. And I might even add a 3rd 60gb boot only drive for 80 bux. depending on if I could fit leopard with all my apps on it.

but how do I find out how much I have in my apps folder?

@barracuda156 If you have a few spinners laying around, Yanno what I like to do with these old boxes is run HDDs in software raid0. The sound is pretty darn cool in a g5 & performance is not half bad but I understand if you dont have spinners you'd rather invest actual money into SSDs for your boot drive.

I've not had any SSD not work in my G5s. Last I bought were these for $19 shipped ea and they've worked great in my PMg4 and g5s as well as a few early intel macbooks & pros.
Netac 120Gb SSD

Best of luck to you.

I have purchased an used Samsung Evo 840 250GB for pretty cheap. My DC 2.3Ghz detects it and i have installed Sorbet Leopard on it. Runs pretty fast, but I don't know if this SSD has hardware TRIM support.

I see you also got Nvidia FX4500 – it is original or flashed PC version?

TRIM support 10.10.4 and up. No room for the 4ea G5s in the sigs.

Yes. I would suggest upgrading to a SSD. They are not very expensive anymore and they're noticeably faster than a spinning disc.
