Actually, they have been for a while now. The iPad mini 4 had $100 off promotions within 2-3 months of release. I never kept up with the iPad Pros so I don't know about those.

Okay, but what I'm saying is the iPad Pro won't be any cheaper in March than the sale prices right now.

You'd might as well wait two months to see if there's any word of an update. If you can't, pick one up from the Apple Certified Refurbished iPad section of the Apple Online Store. But buying one new at this point is kind of silly.

Recommend you wait till March, and then consider one of the new iPads with 3GB of DRAM ... 3GB will probably become the Norm starting with the next updates.

The speakers alone had me upgrading. However, this wasn't only a few months from March. I can see value in waiting until March to see what's offered. If anything, you'll probably find refurbs or discounts on the current 9.7 Pro if you still want that one.

Last week I moved from an Air 2 64GB+Cellular to an iPad Pro 9.7 256GB wifi only.

Simple upgrade reasoning -
- All my current cases fit the Pro 9.7.
- Speakers a lot better.
- Less screen glare.
- More storage vs 4G that I didn't use.
- Apple Pencil support.
- Purchased the Pro via Apple Refurb Store so had a 15% discount.

New ones may be 3 months away, Apple could get rid of the headphone jack and make it all glass, eliminate lightning for USB-C, who knows. All I know is that I trust this design.

Also upgraded from an Air 2 to a 9.7 iPad Pro about a week ago. Totally worth it. The screen is a lot nicer, the speakers are louder, and using it as a notebook to hand write notes with the Apple Pencil is amazing.

And like a previous poster said, I liked the fact that I could use my Belkin QODE Ultimate Pro keyboard case from my Air with my new Pro. Technically it's not supported because it covers the top two speakers. However, these speakers are so loud that the bottom two are still louder than my Air 2. I love how I can separate the case from the keyboard and the keyboard is the best feeling iPad keyboard that I've ever used.

128 here as well. Looking to go for a 256. However its much more expensive then when i bought my air 2 which was early december 2014. Waiting for a pro 2 and then ill upgrade.

I say yes it's worth it. I upgraded from an air 2 to iPad Pro 9.7. And the boost in speed, four speakers and pencil input was worth it.

The screen looks a lot better and I find tru tone display to be easier on the eyes.

I would not upgrade my Air 2 to a Pro 9.7. I plan to get the 12.9 The 12.9 pro is better compared to the 9.7 iPad Pro.

Past experience should tell you that Apple will drop the price of the old one $100 when the new one comes out, then add the $100+ off sales other retailers regularly have and there's your better discount.

All I see are words. Do you have any sources of previous model iPads being $200+ cheaper upon the launch of a new iPad? I don't recall seeing much more than $100 savings on a previous model for at least quite a few months after the release of a new iPad. Even if you can get the same deal as the current sales, which is up to $150 off, what's the benefit of waiting?

Get the 12.9 !

I originally purchased the 12.9 strictly for the extra RAM. I ended up returning it for the 9.7 because it was just way too big for my liking. If you don't travel with your iPad much and like the much larger size, it is definitely a great choice. Especially with the extra GB of RAM.

It's normally not instantly, but I'd be surprised if you had to wait longer than a month or two.

As nearly everybody else has said, I would make the Air 2 last you until March, and see what happens then. If the new models intrigue you, buy one. If they don't, buy the current Pro at a discounted price. Win-win.

I upgraded from the Air 2 to the 9.7" Pro because I was at a point where I needed a cellular model. It was good timing. I haven't been sorry.

You seem like a good person to ask.

I'm considering getting an 9.7" Pro so I can give my Air 2 to my mother to replace her iPad 2.

Aside from cellular have you noticed or found any benefits to this upgrade? I don't have a use for the Pencil (although I'm not discounting it entirely), nor do I really need more accurate color representation although again I'm not dismissing that as useless.

Thanks in advance.

I am looking at a 256 GB iPad Pro 9.7 inch because I like to save all my media on the device locally.
It is not enough of a significant difference to upgrade at this point. I know everybody is saying this, but the March updates will make it a worthy upgrade. Especially the little things like USB 3 speed support and 4GB of RAM might be useful for you.

To be honest, I don't see (physically, not comprehension) the difference between retina and non retina, so I may not be the best one to ask.

I love the Pencil. I take notes all the time and use it regularly.
