Everybody talks how cheap the iPhone SE is but I just checked and iPhone XR is $100 cheaper than the SE. Is it worth to get iPhone XR in 2021?

I would personally gladly take an Xr over an SE any day for the “newer” design, larger battery/better battery life and larger screen.
The main difference is that the SE has the “newer” A13 chip while Xr has the older A12, but both have 3GB RAM. I would go Xr.

If you can find an iPhone 11 then even better go for that, but in this comparison, I’d take Xr.

Thanks! After posting this I was thinking what if I waited till the new iPhones are released? iPhone 11's price would probably drop and it'd be as cheap as XR.
It's interesting that SE is more expensive, at least from Apple. I haven't really looked at other stores yet.

OP, if you like more compact sized phones, Touch ID and prefer the newer A13 bionic chip then the Iphone SE would be the better option. The SE also takes slightly better photos than the XR.
But like Tsepz said, if you would rather have the more modern Face Id all screen design then the XR is the better deal, especially as it is cheaper. You will also get a larger 6.1 screen for your money if large screens are your thing. The A12 bionic is obviously older, but a very capable chip.
Personally i prefer smaller phones and Touch ID, so if i was given a choice i would take the SE.

For real? The SE takes better photos? Doesn't the XR have night mode and SE doesn't?

I renewed my contract last July and opted for iPhone SE (2020) but earlier on this year I ‘downgraded’ to iPhone XR.

Everyone’s different but I much prefer the larger display and not having to charge my phone as often as I had to with the SE.

I just checked and the XR does not have night mode but neither does the SE. Yes technically the SE takes better pics due to the A13 bionics chip computational photography and Apple actually market the SE camera as the “best single camera system on an iphone”, but to be honest i would say they are about the same.

My XR is 2.5 years old and still going strong. If I had to replace it I doubt that I would get the same, preferring to get newer technology. If I was severely price constrained, I would consider it.

I would pay a bit more and go for the 11 personally but the XR isn’t a bad deal and I’d take it over the SE for the larger display, gestures etc.

Xr is underated imo , I just bought one for my boyfriend who refused to upgrade from his 6s. Holy **** it was like night and day for him once he started playing around with it. It's kinda funny seeing someone who's never used face id before , they stick their head out in funny positions thinking that's how it will unlock 😂

Yeah, I just found out that XR doesn't have a nightmode. I hope 11 has.

It depends on when one plans to upgrade from it. I bought one at the beginning of the year with the express intention of upgrading either at the beginning of next year or the beginning of the one thereafter to something more substantial of an upgrade (and probably closer to current hardware/specs). I wouldn't buy one in 2021 with the plan of using it for five years; the latter half of that experience, while likely stable, will probably become annoyingly sluggish.

So, as a 1-2 year use cycle device, the ride will be smooth. Much past that and it might be a better investment to go with either the iPhone 11 or second generation iPhone SE.

I bought XR for my wife. I have SE. XR body / screen feels more solid / tough than SE. XR battery is also better as well as XR is cooler (lower temp) compared to SE (easier get warm). In my country, brand new XR is less than 100 bucks higher than brand new SE.

XR is a legend my bro uses it and I totally wouldn’t mind using it instead of my current 11 Pro (also a legend) if I had to.
