I have an iPad Air and I have been thinking about getting the 9'7" iPad Pro. My iPad Air works wonderfully and my battery still holds a full charge. Is it worth updating or should I wait for next years iPad?

Depends. What interests you about the new 9.7 pro? Pencil? More ram than your air? Screen? Faster? Camera? Split screen multitasking?

What do you use your current iPad to do?

I had the Air 1 and I am upgrading. I probably would. I didn't like not being able to use Split View. And it lags sometimes.

I have an iPad Air 1 and I'm debating it, I really like the iPad Pro 12.9 with the Apple Pencil, but it's already far enough into the release cycle for me that I'm thinking about waiting for the iPad Pro 2 (12.9)

My reason for wanting to upgrade is for design using Apple Pencil and AstroPad. If I didn't have that I probably wouldn't give two fluffs about it. 12.9" screen size + drawing and Apple Pencil = upgrade, anything else and you're just overspending on unused features.

Like I said I'll probably wait, especially since they will have the adaptive screen that was just released for the iPad Pro 9.7 in the next version. (Which is why I wait for all the even generation devices)

What I like about the 9.7 Pro is the four speakers, would be great for sharing videos over my iPad Air. I also mostly use my iPad for storing photos to share with family members when I am traveling aboard. So the camera isn't much of a problem because I have my 6S. And I have been itching to have split screen view.

I would say if you can afford it, it is a nice upgrade to the air.

iPad Air user here. Honestly, while the rest of the new features are nice, the only reason I'm upgrading is the 256GB storage. If the new model doesn't have any must-have features for you, then you can probably just skip it. If you change your mind a few months later, you might even get it for $50-100 discount when you do buy.

My Air still runs pretty damn good, and its battery is good. The Air 2 didn't offer anything that interested me, but the Pro definitely does.

Some of the things upgrading my Air to the Pro 9.7 will get me:

• 4 Speakers
• Double the RAM
• Touch ID
• Wider color display
• Several other screen upgrades (Fully laminated, Antireflective, etc.)
• A9X Processor
• 2.4x faster CPU
• 4.3x faster graphics
• A better camera w/ many new features (4k video, Slo-Mo etc.)
• A camera flash (which I will often use as a flashlight)
• Bluetooth 4.2
• Smart Connector (even though I'll never use it)
• Pencil Support (even though I'll never use it)

Personally it seems to me the main reason one should upgrade to this coming from the Air 2, is if you'll use Apple pencil, this might be huge for education for example. This is why there is a $100 price hike, and the "pro" moniker, because of the apple pencil. Otherwise, the other features are nice, but unless you just gotta have the latest and greatest, it doesn't seem a "must-upgrade".
