So there seem to be rumored Mac Mini and MBP updates at the late October/Nov1 event/launch. Are there ANY rumors of a MBA refresh as well?

If you are interested in a MBA is it worth waiting?

I was turned off by the weight of the 14" MBP even tho I much prefer the screen. I would really love it if they put an OLED or miniLED display in the Air. And given that M4 ipads exist and M4 macs will soon exist, it seems kinda lame to buy an M3 MBA.

What should people thinking about a MBA do?

M4 MBA's likely won't be revealed until next spring, so no need to wait if you need one and can find a good deal. Also no rumors regarding anything other than a spec bump / new chip, so it'll likely be the same design as the M2 & M3. Might as well go for it now.

I was in the same dilemma back in m1 days.

I have m1 air and m1 pro mbp 14. I found the ideal OS version for Air and it never stutters. On MBP i see beachballs from time to time on different os versions. In short, my air works faster than beefier mbp.

Weight wise i do love and use air 99% of the time. I got 2 laptops cause i have 2 jobs that need to run separately/simultaneously.

Overall excited for march 2024 M4 Air, cause that is the only laptop i would need regardless of the screen - I don’t care that it doesn’t have mbp screen quality for number of reasons. At the same time I wouldn’t use ipads screen lower than the oled(mini led) on Pro models, but on laptops the difference is not that staggering.

PS. Of course wait - m4 is 25% faster than M3 and 2 times faster than M1.

It’ll be early next year it seems - March/April. The M3 packs a lot of horsepower. If you need something now, then buy. If not, then wait.

My M1 Air has plenty of power for what I use it for. I will likely wait for a refurb M5/M6.

I don't think so, the event will be for the MacBook Pro since the MaBook Air M3 came out in March 2024, Apple will likely wait until March 2025 at the earliest for that. On top of that you can get some really amazing deals on the MBA M3 and M2 from third party stores like Amazon with huge discounts right now (especially tomorrow with amazon prime deals starting).

that being said if you really want to wait and have a decent machine now, then you'd get a better machine at full price come march 2025. It's possible they bump up the base MBA M3 to 16GB too after the event but with the current discounts you can gret a 16GB MBA M3 for the same price as 8GB versions from Apple.

the base MacBook Pro M3 is going for really cheap if you'd consider that

Refurb from Apple

MBA won't likely be released until March of 2025. Best Buy has a flash sale right now on MBA. $250 off, so snag one up now if you are in the market for a MBA

Air isn't until next year. Probably another 7 months or so away.

Get an M3 now or wait for M4 if it means that much to you. Chances are you won't need the M4 so nothing wrong with getting an M3. Most people use their Air for basic stuff and the M3 and even M2 is overkill for 99% of people who have an Air.

If you really need an M4 then you should be looking at MBP/Mini/iMac. Air is just going to hold you back and you'll probably not notice any difference between M3/M4.

Same, would be nice if we had an option to pay extra for 120hz miniLED. I'd like the brighter and smooth display, but do not need the weight and power of the MBP.

Apparently not. No updated MBA until next year according to the 'rumors'. If you need one get it now. You will wait for ever if you are looking to see when the latest version of whatever you want is released. But this is old advice and still relevant.

If it is not urgent, I would suggest to wait for the next supercycle with M4.

It will be 25-33% faster than M3. That is not happening every year. Once you acquire m4, one can sit still for 4-5 years.

Going to have to take more than a faster chip for me to move away from my m2 air lol, never had any issues with it slowing down doing any tasks. Would love even a 90hz screen or something significant to make it tempting... then again, probably don't want a convincing upgrade either lol

There were never any rumors about MBA for October 2024.

The real choice was whether you wanted an M4/Pro MBP this November. Given the extra TB4 port and support for more external monitors, it might be worth it.

In all likelihood it will be the same as last year where the M3 MBP was released in the Fall and the MBA followed in the Spring. The current MBAs are barely over 6 months old.
