hello,

i have music in my itunes library dating back to 2002. you send me by arethra.
it's 8000 songs and the idea of loosing that date due to hd failure or something like it would be not so good. and so i do a simple backup of my itunes date. all 45 gigs of it.

one copy on an external hd, one copy on a desktop that is the main itunes library, and another copy on my 60 gig ipod.

trouble is, i'm running out of hd space everywhere!

do i need the extra copy on the external hd if i have the 60 gig ipod? there are easy and concrete ways to extract an ipod music library in case of hd failure on my desktop, right?

thanks,
r.

Yes there are. But an iPod is very "loseable" and so not such a good backup device. Having said that I primarily used my iPod as a backup for my library, but rarely took it out of my house.

The more backups you have the better, but as you're finding out it boils down to a compromise based on how valuable the data is to you.
