Opennotifier is THE reason to jailbreak. It shows icons in your status bar for notifications and for silent mode. Also, Zephyr is another great tweak. It's a home button replacement. Swipe up from the bottom to close an app or show the task switcher. It's quite fantastic. Those are my favorites.

Also there is a tweak that slims down the navigation bar in apps. Cant remember the name, installed it on an iPhone a year ago, and it freed up some vertical pixels and looked good

You are referring to DietBar. I LOVE this tweak too except it's glitchy in some apps. For whatever reason, in some apps the button in the top left of the navigation bar will look weird and sometimes will be hard to use. Other times the view just under the navigation bar will look really goofy. It's too bad because it's a very slick UI tweak which frees up a few rows of pixels. Not sure why those navigation bars are so big to begin with in the first place! Haha. Luckily a few months ago Ryan Petrich, the developer, pushed an update to DietBar which allows you to enable or disable the tweak in every individual app. This is at least better than nothing so if an app looks buggy with the tweak you can just turn it off for that app. I just wish it uniformly worked across every navigation bar!

I didn't have an iPhone versions iOS 4 trough 5, (Had an iPad though).
But now at least in iOS6 the Navigation Bar slims down for all Tableview based apps I've tried while on landscape orientation.

Maybe DietBar works better on iPhone 4 with iOS6 jailbroken than other platforms? Maybe Apple actually fixed the bugs that DietBar had?

Anyone able to try out this hypotesis? I don't have an iPhone 4 or 3GS, or an iPod Touch.
