I have a 15" 2016 MBP TB. Until the new iMacs are released, I intend to use it with a monitor as my main setup.

I would like:

-P3 Colourspace
-At least 27"
-At least 4K with 60hz

Is the LG 5K Ultrafine really my only choice?..or does anyone know of anything else on the horizon?

Thanks for the list, Fishrrman.

As I wrote, I'm looking for the P3 colourspace, that's why Ultrafine seemed like my only choice.

EDIT: Just seen the new LG 32UD99 - looks perfect! I really don't want to risk an Ultrafine.

The 32UD99 is a handsome looking display!!! Unlike the Ultrafine, it actually looks like a very high-end display :p

I have read about the older LG 31MU97C but never seen it. I considered it for a brief time, and IIRC it will do 4k@60Hz with DisplayPort (but uses the older gen HDMI so can only do 4k@30 via HDMI.) People seem to be very fond of it. (I eventually went for something not nearly as nice.)

Now I want a 32UD99. If you get it, please share your impressions!

Thanks for your thoughts. It does look great..is 32", P3, USB-C and has bluetooth audio..not sure I'd make much use of that tho o_O

Seems like there's a bit of a wait for it to be fully available, but I'll keep you posted, ZapNZs.

4k at 32" is not going to be the same as 5k at 27" you'd get with the LG Ultrafine. The ppi is far lower on the 32" display than it is on the Ultrafine. That's the big problem here. If you want something similar to the Ultrafine than you can't go beyond 27" (there is an 8k display from Dell which not only costs a fortune but also requires an extremely powerful GPU).

There may be many 4k displays out there, the problem is that not many of those displays are hidpi. If hidpi is the requirement for having 4k @ 60Hz then that is a problem. The added requirement of the display having to be P3 pretty much narrows it down to the Ultrafine. Check out a DPI/PPI calculator like this one. Anything that is around 200 or even higher would be similar to Apples retina displays. Anything around 100 to 150 is just a normal display.

4k screens aren't worth it, if you ask me (not enough bang for the buck). The 5K Ultrafine is the ONLY 5K screen that also offers the built-in camera/mic that works seamlessly with macOS—I just wish it had more competition. Even without the camera/mic, it's hard to find affordable 5K screens.

Honestly, 4K monitors are kind of in an odd resolution/size.

If I didn't already own the 5K, I would have gotten an ultra wide or 40" 4K.
