Minneapolis area - we have 5 apple stores. I want to line up around 8pm Thursday night to get an iPhone X. Is that a reasonable time to secure a phone?

Check with the store management to verify they are allowing overnight waiting.
Around what time were you thinking? We have 5 stores around so I'm hoping it's not too bad.

Back when I was a youngin I waited in line around 11-12pm the store opened up at 8am. I don’t know if they even did preorder at the time.

yup, drive by. that's what i did last year and i was second in line. As soon as i saw that first chair around 6pm i put mine out there...
this reminded me when the iPhone 4 launched, the apple store in louisville was not allowing people to line up overnight and we hid in the bushes at the mall and as soon as we saw them forming lines again we ran like hell lol
