SO WHAT ARE THE SOFTWARE-HARDWARE BENEFITS OF LION vs Snow Leopard

I have a late 2009 MacBook and upgraded to Lion when it came out. It was an awful experience for the longest time until recently when I upgraded from 2GB of RAM to 4GB of RAM. That upgrade alone solved 99% of the issues I was having with Lion. I love Lion now and prefer it to SL.

Do you even read the threads, in which you reply short before you make your own thread about "if to install my pirated version of Lion", though using caps seems to indicate otherwise, with all the screaming, it must really hurt.

Definitely stay away from it. Not stable at all. Well, there are people had it without any issue but there are ones had problems beside. So, better you don't dive into it.

Go use SL with 4gigs of ram and you'll see how much better it is than lion

Snow Leopard was amazing. It was my first Mac OS. But now that I have enough RAM for Lion and can use its features with my i-devices, I wouldn't want to go back to SL.

So what ya honest opinions or what are wrong with lion cause i downloaded it but dindt install it yet?

I gave them to you. Don't install.

Not sure I even understand your question.

There are a whole bunch of opinions in this thread. Maybe it isn't enough yet for you to decide? Not sure I know what else you really want.

I've used Lion in the Apple Store and in some aspects I do quite like it. I'm gonna be upgrading soon just because I want the latest security updates, but TBH I do think the overall OS is far too dumbed down. I don't want my Mac to act like an iPad, but that seems to be the direction Apple's heading in.

From what I gathered from another thread the OP started, they're talking about a pirated copy of Lion. If that's the case, I would never recommend installing pirated software of any kind, as it could contain malware.

Malware? On OS X? Never!

Really? They just swapped mine out ;)
I spilled coffee on mine while calibrating it, so they're checking for viruses and repairing permissions that were damaged by overheating during a clean reinstall.

So you're saying I've never used Leopard or Snow Leopard because I happen to like MC better ?

Huh? I was responding to your naive and utterly baseless conclusion made up the line which I repeat thusly:

In other words, there is no correlation between Snow Leopard use and liking or not liking Lion.

I said there was a greater "chance" of people disliking Lion if they've used SL. That's all. Quite logical actually. 75% of the gripes about Lion come from features people miss in SL. Mainly the removal of Spaces and "Save as". Where have you been?

And where did I imply you were an OSX noob who never used an earlier version of OSX? Paranoid much?

You're entitled to your opinion and I respect it, it's about darn time you started respecting the opinion of others.

Right back at you my friend. Don't presume you speak for the world here and all will be fine.

In some ways I like Lion more (some times you feel like a nut, some times you don't), but...

1) It took a lot of modification to make Lion more Snow Leopard-like for me to start liking it--for example, permanently disabling the "Restore Applications and Windows on Reboot" function and the crazy inverted scrolling function (also making the scrollbars not disappear).

2) Auto-save and versions suck and still piss me off--I would love a way of disabling them and getting the old functionality of Preview back.

3) As mentioned, there is no Rosetta, so if you absolutely have to use an old app of any kind, you are SOL.

4) Applications that use Lion's Fullscreen mode APIs (like QuickTime Player 10) do not support multiple monitors. I overcome this by either using VLC or good old QuickTime 7--they can play fullscreen video on an external monitor.

In summary, Lion is prettier, flashier and even (a little) faster than SL (although it is slower to boot/reboot, it is faster in use if you have >4GB of RAM). But, it requires some customization and patience. I feel as if Lion was rushed out the door while still in beta--it has taken the 10.7.2/10.7.3 updates to really smooth it out, but a bit of wonkiness still remains.

The real problem with Snow Leopard is that it is not supported anymore--for example, there will be no Mac OS 10.6.9, only an occasional security patch--and more and more apps will become Lion only over time.
