When Snow Leopard came out, it had many enhancements over Leopard.

Is Lion taking that "enhanced" Snow Leopard and adding to it, or have they started from scratch with a clunkier system, and then later we will see Mac OS X Snow Lion?

I'm not sure what you're asking. Every OS X release has been built on what has come before it. They haven't "started from scratch" since 10.0.

I see what you're asking, kind of. Maybe.

But just because its not called "Snow Lion" or "Leopard Lion" or whatever cross between the three words you can think of, doesn't mean they're starting from scratch. The new OS is 10.7, meaning it was built off of everything 10.x before it. The name change is just that, a different name.

I guess the real questions is if Lion is a minor update or a major one.

I haven't used Lion but from my reading I believe it's about in the middle.
