- You don't need the link. The solution (a terminal command) is written about a quarter of an inch from where the dead link is.

My solution for mobile backups-- don't delete anything you don't want to delete. It's kind of the same reason I don't have a case for my iPad-- my solution is to not drop it.

I have a TM backup for if the hard drive dies, that's it. Mobile Backups, another useless Lion feature

Well, here's the fun part:

1. You might run out of space and, despite having backups and prepared for every other contingency, you might still have to take a risk. Scary, huh? One can never have too much in the way of backups.

2. Nice solution. But I doubt the one you're responding to lives in a padded cell. One can drop it by accident but that doesn't mean the thing won't break. And who said you would drop it, deliberately or otherwise? Somebody else could take it from your hand and whip it a good distance for sport. It might fall out of a holster/pocket/purse and crack... and in case you forgot, most iPhone cases don't cover the front touch glass panel... where's the common sense rant aimed at those companies for not putting on a simple flip lid, like how Cap'n Kirk's communicator works? We all buy and promote them and I've always inquired at stores and sent emails... much to zero effect...

Simpleminded certainties are pretty much useless once the entire realm of possibilities is analyzed... stuff happens, often outside of one's own control. Then again, if Ayn Rand preached self-reliance and called everyone else lazy leeches, but then ditched her own philosophy by taking social security (and tried to hide the fact by getting it in her husband's name) then anything truly is possible...

The idea is to take action to avoid or mitigate the repercussions of the most likely disaster scenarios, whenever the benefits outweigh the costs. Me needing to delete files I haven't backed up to TM on the go to create additional space is an extremely unlikely scenario, especially since I usually have between 30-50GB free. Someone throwing my iPad across the room is equally unlikely. While dropping my iPad is certainly within the realm of reasonable possibility, in the time I have owned portable electronics I have never dropped anything simply because I am careful. Besides, I like the look of my iPad outside of a case :)
