I tried out a M1 iMac and a 14 inch Macbook Pro today at Bestbuy. I am surprised that the app open speed in Macbook Pro is noticeably faster than M1 iMac, like message, map, mail, safari, etc. It is not a meaningful difference that would slow down your work even for a little bit but it is definitely noticeable. For those of you have Macbook Pro and M1 mac, do you notice the same difference?

I’ve noticed that it’s faster for me. I had a 13” MBP M1 and now have a 16” MBP Max.
Opening apps, switching between apps, regular tasks, browsing the web, office apps are snappier and generally little to no lag or delays. Hard to quantify but overall I’m shaving seconds off hundreds of tasks a day.
So far - super happy with the upgrade.

The 2021 MacBook Pro SSD access is closer to 5000 Mb/s compared to close to 3000 Mb/s in the 24" iMac when running Blackmagic Speed Test. That is why in some YouTube comparisons utilizing 32GB Ram with no swap used versus 16GB Ram with some swap used are almost as fast.

I have both a 24" M1 iMac and a 16" M1 Max MBP.

In my quick test there, the M1 mac was good but it feels normal to me. The M1 pro was so fast that I have never seen it on any laptop.
