I'm wondering if they are already out because I've read a few places online that they are, and some that say not. What's the truth?

Also, at this point, is it a wiser choice to wait with buying a new Macbook Air until the new chips make their way into the computers? I've read that a new computer with the old chip will be outdated much more quickly and may not be a wise choice.

Thanks for your help!

1 no mac with its main processor an ARM chip is on the market

2 no rumor site is claiming that there are macs with their main processor an ARM chip currently on the market

3 some/many rumor sites are reporting the likelihood of main processor ARMed macs to launch the last calendar quarter of 2020

4 macs have already some ARM chips in them such as the T2 chip

5 anybody who would buy an INTEL mac right now is, well, i have to clean this up here, beyond me.

Could care less if ARM is right around the corner. I'll buy an Intel Mac all day long right now. And tomorrow too. No reason not too. Apple isn't going to dump Intel support the minute ARM comes out. Quite the opposite, I'm guessing.

Latest rumor is that Apple will re-launch the basic MacBook with an ARM processor. I was very surprised when Apple dropped the MacBook from the lineup but it makes more sense now if they intend to try ARM on it.

I'm not sure if you read the same report I did, but apparently this new MacBook has GPU performance equivalent to the Radeon 5600XT. If true, then graphics performance will not be an issue for Apple going forward.

That would be AWESOME! You get the battery life and low heat production of a netbook but with the benefit of local storage and true laptop performance. The only question for me will be what do I do with my new MacBook Air when I buy one of these new ARMbooks? :)

Can you link to this report? Nothing I've read stacks it up with a 5600

I bought a new Intel Mac a few months ago. I wanted a new Mac. I'll buy a AS Macintosh when they come out too because I'll want one. Price/wants/needs are all relative to different people.

There is no report. It's one of those infamous and sadly commonplace "I read on the Internet that..." or "my older brother's girlfriend's uncle said..." references.

I can't find it now (looks like the original article was pulled), but I never said it was fact, either. However, information is beginning to leak out about the first AS-based Macs...

Those are all speculative guesses from three sites that have no recent credible track record. BGR lost their cred a long, Long, LONG time ago.

They're still saying "my older brother's girlfriend's uncle says..."

Anyone can write something like "I believe that..." in the pursuit of worshipping the Almighty Pageview count.

Let's face it, >95% of Mac rumors are incorrect. This site and other similar sites do a p!ss poor job at tracking the accuracy of various rumor mongers. Only in the past 2-3 years have they elucidated that some sites have a poor track record (*cough* Digitimes *cough*).

Same with ANALyst reports. In fact, there are some with such a fine track record of being wrong, it's wiser to bet that whatever they write won't end up as reality. Gene Munster is the all-time champion.

Most Apple media sites won't even quote Rob Enderle anymore. And Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty did a 180 a while ago. But it took her about ten years.

But have no fear, those myopic voices have been replaced with younger even more stupid voices. Like that moron YouTuber who reviewed the MacBook Air out of the box and concluded the system had a problem when it was just doing the initial Spotlight indexing. And weirdly, some MR commenters defended the guy.

You trade it in at the time of purchase! At least that is what I plan to do if I buy any other laptop.
