I'm wondering if the Apple hardware designers are working on an m5pro Mini with the aim of reducing heat/fan noise that some m4pro owners are complaining about...?

has been one of my thoughts as well.

Will be interesting to see what happens, and if there will be some M5 desktops.
I still doubt it.
If there´ll be some M5 desktops, there must be a better reason for that. Could be AI or GPU power related heavy power increases ? Some "heat issues" alone has never been a problem for apple themself, imo. Just look at the last few intel MBPs

Hmmm.....with the upcoming AI / Siri, and changes to the Apple *OS across the board, do not be surprised to see a leap to M5 end of this year or beginning of next year. The M4 is a springboard, the M5 will be the base line requirement for the near future.

"The M4 is a springboard, the M5 will be the base line requirement for the near future."

I don't know of anything to support this opinion, what are you basing this belief on?

And Apple updates are designed to make money. They have zero incentive to update again so quickly, and millions of dollars of incentive - as well as past history - to suggest no update soon.

MacBook Pro with M5
MacBook Pro with M5 Pro
MacBook Pro with M5 Max
iPad Pro with M5

Might see the Mac Mini go to M5 and only 3 models price wise. Mac Studio is a good candidate in 2026 for M5 Ultra, with M4 Mac Studios being available as a lesser priced Studio to the M5 Ultra Studio.

There have been a good number of sales on M4 and earlier devices this year, so far. The tariffs were a blessing as Apple shipped in a lot of phones and other devices, and are motivated to shift them into the hands of customers. Expect to see even more sales at the end of the year.
