I'm wondering if the Apple hardware designers are working on an m5pro Mini with the aim of reducing heat/fan noise that some m4pro owners are complaining about...?

has been one of my thoughts as well.

Will be interesting to see what happens, and if there will be some M5 desktops.
I still doubt it.
If there´ll be some M5 desktops, there must be a better reason for that. Could be AI or GPU power related heavy power increases ? Some "heat issues" alone has never been a problem for apple themself, imo. Just look at the last few intel MBPs

Hmmm.....with the upcoming AI / Siri, and changes to the Apple *OS across the board, do not be surprised to see a leap to M5 end of this year or beginning of next year. The M4 is a springboard, the M5 will be the base line requirement for the near future.

"The M4 is a springboard, the M5 will be the base line requirement for the near future."

I don't know of anything to support this opinion, what are you basing this belief on?

And Apple updates are designed to make money. They have zero incentive to update again so quickly, and millions of dollars of incentive - as well as past history - to suggest no update soon.

MacBook Pro with M5
MacBook Pro with M5 Pro
MacBook Pro with M5 Max
iPad Pro with M5

Might see the Mac Mini go to M5 and only 3 models price wise. Mac Studio is a good candidate in 2026 for M5 Ultra, with M4 Mac Studios being available as a lesser priced Studio to the M5 Ultra Studio.

There have been a good number of sales on M4 and earlier devices this year, so far. The tariffs were a blessing as Apple shipped in a lot of phones and other devices, and are motivated to shift them into the hands of customers. Expect to see even more sales at the end of the year.

I'm considering buying mac mini. Do you think we can expect the mini m5 pro this fall, or at the beginning of the 2026?
Based on Apple's historical Mac mini release timeline and the broader Apple Silicon cadence, here's an informed projection for the Mac mini with M5:
Given this pattern and the M4 already being released (Oct 2024), the M5 Mac mini could be expected around Mar-Jun 2026. This assumes Apple continues 18-24 month update cadence for the Mac mini. The M5 family launches in late 2025 or early 2026 (likely with iPads or MacBook Air first). The Mac mini update follows a few months after the M5 debut.

Apple tends to prioritize MBAs, MBPs and iPads for new chips with Mac mini and Studio updates trailing by 3–6 months. The Mac mini M4 release in Oct 2024 broke from the M2's January release and might indicate Apple aligning Mac mini updates with fall hardware events or developer cycles.

That’s assuming the Mac mini even gets M5. I wouldn’t be surprised if it skips M5 and waits until M6 instead.

As a completely uninformed opinion (but hey! This is a rumour site) I think the mini has now found its groove and if the Pro variants stick around (because they sell, which is the only reason they would stick around…) Apple will now refresh the mini every time the Pro variants of their M chips are released, although timing might be offset with the MBPro. All the heavy lifting happens on the laptop, so the desktop is gravy… (greater sales volume = greater profit margin)

Not only are there not enough data points to make an accurate estimate for the next Mini update, but you also have to take into account global supply chain issues in 2020-21 and how that lead to longer update cycles across the electronics industry. I wouldn't look at the time between updates so much as the time of year in which the mini has been updated. I don't think Apple will update the Mini until late next year in the October - December timeframe.
