I think with external displays, one is going to use some of the VRAM of the GPU already, THEN add in anything that is going to peg the GPU and more VRAM is going to be better. personally, I'm running one 4K monitor and one wide screen non 4K monitor and don't really do too much GPU intensive stuff, so I think i'm going stock i7, and 5500m and 4GB.

It isn’t just about the price increase It takes more power and increases the chance of throttling in games. Couple of YT reviewers point this out and reckon 5300 is better for gaming because it gives consistency. Depends on the game of course and WoW isn’t all that intensive.
