Just because you don’t use it doesn’t mean it’s not successful lol. Far as I can tell it’s been pretty successful. I see people use it all the time, whether with Apple accessories or third party ones. I love it and if you don’t that’s fine, don’t use it.

It could also be down to where people are from too in terms of perceptions of how successful it is. It’s not hugely popular amongst my circles in the UK and the OP is from an even smaller nation again. Apple is hugely popular in the United States where hardware is also a bit cheaper than Europe and Australia. I don’t get the impression MagSafe has been particularly pushed here and I wonder what the appeal of a £59 charger is when older chargers already charge the iPhone. Using older chargers was also something Apple promoted at the iPhone 12 launch and that might have something to do with it.

I like using it with the Belkin car mount, but outside of that it hasn't really made much of an impact on the ownership experience for me.

The auto-alignment for wireless charging is an interesting feature, but the pricing is ridiculous. 45€ for the official MagSafe charging puck and then another 25€ for the 20W USB-C charger adds up to 70€ for what is ultimately a more inefficient and slower option to charge your device.

For Apple it's a no-brainer though and I doubt they see it as unsuccessful. The licensing fees alone are probably a decent revenue stream and that's not even mentioning the new products or the added price on existing accessories like cases.

They are great for certain applications and hope it sticks around. I know in my other car the MagSafe mount is great for gps and charging. Now it doesn’t charge super fast but it works as intended.

MagSafe is fantastic--I love it so much. Much like standard Bluetooth is improved greatly by the W1 chips in Apple's audio accessories, wireless charging is improved greatly by MagSafe.

My bet is that Apple continues pushing MagSafe. It's only been available for iPhone for a couple of generations and is already common as a built-in feature for so many 3rd party cases. I know for my own use, I can't go back to standard Qi charging. Too easy to mis-align my phone or AirPods, and too hard to figure out in the dark.

Big fan of MagSafe. The fact apple is likely to add it to the next iPad Pro’s shows how they see it’s future.

It seems like an elegant upgrade to the usual wireless charging with the option to make a profit on the accessories- I don’t see it going away, especially since that charging method is widely adopted already.

As someone who has never used it or wireless charging or (seen anyone else for that matter) I highly doubt it's going anywhere, whether most use it or not.

If in the future they want to make a portless phone this will probably be how how it's done. (For what it's worth, I would not be a fan of removing the port)

In the meantime, MagSafe will allow Apple to help make up for the lost profits that will happen once Apple switches the iPhone to USB-C and obsoletes Lightning starting next year. This will obviously happen gradually so perhaps they will start pushing MagSafe accessories and such a bit more at that time.

So you have insight into their usage numbers?

I love my external battery pack that uses MagSafe.
I do love those packs, but I do wish they could bring down the $/mAh. Especially tha Apple one. It's ludicrously expense. At least Anker is somewhat reasonable.

That's the one I got. It saved me on a recent trip where I was snapping pictures all day.
