Is MBP worth the extra $50 vs MBA?

Costco has the new 2018 MBA 8/128 on sale for $1000 (compared to Apple's $1200) but I saw today that Best Buy has the 8/128 MBP on sale for $1050. My wife has the old 2017 MBA and I'd like to upgrade her to one of these. She just does email, browsing, and office apps.

Is the MBP worth the extra $50 vs the new MBA? Thanks!
 
I just got the 16/512 MBA and I LOVE IT. I got rid of the 2017 13" MBP with Touch Bar. I wasn't really happy with it and when the new MBA's came out and I tried them, I was more impressed with it than my MBP. If that's all she will be doing, it's a great machine!
 
Thanks. Yeah, the MBP always seems like it should be the better machine, but the 2018 MBA keyboard improvement and that finterprint sensor are nice. She's also used to the MBA "wedge" for years so may prefer the MBA.

What was your MBP doing that made you unhappy, that your Air is managed to resolve?

i dont get it.

you are looking to take a huge resale hit to dump a one year old computer and you need to know which computer to buy with value for $50 being the deciding factor?

Not sure what you mean? Who said I was going to resell the 2017 MBA? In fact I'm planning to pass it to our daughter.

I was leaning towards the 2018 MBA for the wife but then saw the 2017 MBP for $50 more and just curious if it's really worth it. Per one member, they liked the 2018 MBA better anyway.

well then, looking at apples site, based purely on specs of course the mbp is the better buy for just $50 more.

Depends on whether you think a slightly different keyboard is worth going the route of the Air. The MBP has a better screen: it's brighter and has nicer colors. For me, that was a huge factor in choosing the MBP over the Air.
 
I'll pick the Pro (albeit, the 256GB model) 99 times out of 100.

MBP is so much better than the MBA. The only department where MBA surpasses MBP is its weight.

Well there is TouchID and an older butterfly keyboard (assuming you are taking about the non-TB Pro).
 
Thanks. I did wind up getting her the 2018 MBA from Best Buy last night. Debated the MBP side by side, but she doesn't need the power and this morning she actually said she's liking the TouchID when logging in (just a few times so far of course, but no entering of her long password at least). I got BB to price match another store so it was just $999.99 and with my Elite Plus points I get back, pretty much wipes the tax.

So far so good. As long as she's happy with it, I'm good :)
