Red and Blue

I have a red and blue stuck pixel on my 1.25Ghz 15" PB. I also have 5 HUGE white spots. I know this isn't typical and its going back to Apple this week for a new screen, but BUYER BEWARE. However, you could get a screen that never has any problems... ever. I am a regular computing buying horror story so take this with a grain of salt. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't think it is that widespread of a problem. Good luck!

Pixel problems

My GF's 1.25 ALU pbook had 2 dead pixels, she actually rma'd it got a new one with only 1 dead pixel. My current powerbook had a defective drive and one dead pixel and I got a replacement. This one has 1 dead pixel, 1 green stuck pixel and 1 red stuck pixel. In fact, today at the apple store every 15 ALU there had at least one dead pixel. I think its fairly common, so much so that it requires an insane amount of dead pixels to actually consider it out of specification.

I'd shy away from any technique that involves pressing on an LCD screen.
yep. press TOO hard, and you can actually push the liquid OUT OF THE MATRIX! nothing like permanently damaging your screen, as well as having a very nasty blank space (i wonder if it would be white...or clear?).

you must have the worst luck ever. i have never had a dead pixel in 20 years of computers, i actually had a stuck pixel, but like someone else noted, it actually disappeared with an OS upgrade, very bizarre. I have never seen a stuck pixe or a dead one at an apple store, are you sure it just wasn't a piece of dust? i find it hard to believe they'd use a defective display unit. to have dead pixels on every computer u buy is insane, maybe you have a dirty power supply or something?

My Pismo and 17" Powerbook both had 1 stuck green pixel. It happens. But what are you going to do? Never buy a LCD? Just take the plunge and hope for the best.

Another option is to purchase a "refreshed" product from the Apple Store. Many times they will let you inspect them, as they are already opened. That, and you'll save an average of 10%. Not too shabby.

I got my PB's display replaced by Apple about two weeks ago, for a very small almost-unnoticeable white spot (they also replaced the logic board, but that was unrelated). I watched 50 First Dates the first night I had it back, and about 2/3 through, I get a vertical line of yellow pixels approximately 2/3 of the width from the left (1/3 from the right). It disappeared about ten minutes later though, and hasn't returned.

I have bought 4 macs over the years, one had a stuck pixel. My friend has had several, no stuck pixels. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I have had 3 12" powerbooks come through my hands (2 1ghz, 1 867) and only the 867 had one dead pixel. I have also had two imac 17"s come through the house, and no dead ones there....
