Lately, I'm getting a lot of delays in completing tasks or tasks not completing at all. Simple things too. I'll ask Siri to set a timer for 10 minutes, for example; and I'll get "Just a moment" (few seconds of delay), "I'm on it" (few more seconds of delay), then finally "OK, 10 minutes and counting". Other times, I'll say "Hey Siri, play some music" and will be met by similar responses and ultimately, words to the effect of "Sorry, I having trouble doing that".

Anyone else getting that lately? Could it be something as simple as bandwidth?

Same thing happened to me earlier on... turns out my Virgin Media broadband is having issues all over the UK, so that was definitely the reason!
Otherwise, Siri has been no dumber than usual...

I had the issue with the timer last week I think and just today I tried to use it to send a text and it kept failing over and over. Seems to be HomePod specific. Other devices have been fine.

Thanks for the responses so far.

To clarify, haven't noticed any difference in our 'normal' activity on browsers, apps, etc. It seems (so far, at least) to be only on the HomePod.

same here,
the past few days if she's been sitting for a while, she won't hear my first "hey siri" top doesn't even light up
and I've been getting a bunch of delays as you descirbed

This is just my observation, but in the past, when she gets stupid like this, it's normally a few days before apple releases a software update.
not sure if they're updating servers in the background to get ready, and they don't work so good with other versions or what.

It's your wi-fi router. Disable the one you got from your ISP and buy a new MESH router. The performance is incredible, and fixes all HomePod issues of this nature. Costs about $250 and takes 15 minutes to set up yourself.

No it doesn’t. I have a rock solid 4 node mesh system and I still have the issues. Two of the four Homepods are even connected to the master node and are the same over the last three days.

This statement is misleading at best.

I noticed for the past few days, my HomePod will make a call, but It would drop after a few seconds with no sound. I then have to make the call on my phone and transfer to the HomePod. Also, when I tried asking Siri something, my phone would take it. A reset of the HomePod resolved that but still with the call issues.

Have eero pro with four pro routers and two plug in beacons. Not my WiFi. Everything else is solid.

How old is your MESH setup? My friends is 2 years old and was in conflict with his notebook drivers. He rolled the drivers back and it solved the problem.

Siri itself has been acting up the last few weeks. For a period of about 4 days it wouldn't recognize any of my contacts, didn't know who I was etc. On any device.

It's gotten better over the last few days but it's still not perfect. For example, I can't get Siri to call any other number for a contact except the first listed. I used to be able to say "Hey Siri call home" and it knew to call the number listed as home for our landline. Now it replies "I don't see Home in your contact"

More than mildly frustrating but history has proven that trying to "fix" it yourself is a waste of time. Just have to wait it out.

As of this morning none of my HomePod can recognize me or control HomeKit.

I've also not using my provider's router.
have a small apartment, so just one unifi base station (enterprise grade)

nothings changes at all, and the HomePod will drop things frequently.

about once a month I have to unplug it, because it just stops talking to my hue devices, they continue to work from everything else. once the HomePod powers back up, it's fine.

I bought one on sale for $199. It worked fine with homekit for two days.
on the third day, all the home kit devices( lifx, wemo, eve, hue) were evidently classified as songs.
of course then it could not find them.
I reset the device and it worked for two days before reverting to being obtuse.
I reckon that I'm being spurned because I'm not an "apple music" subscriber.
I won't rent the music that I own, so the homepod is pretty much useless. Airplay only seems like.
Disappointing..
Also the sound is overhyped...plasticky compared to a 3 piece computer sound trio eg, Klipsch or cambridge audio.
I was hoping that it would replace the smiling competition.

Hey all the last couple of weeks I have been having exactly the same problem. UK based with a BT home hub.

For years it’s been working fine and recently every time I ask it something I get “just a sec” wait a few seconds then it does what was asked.

Usual things tried;
- Restarting homepod
- Restarting homehub

I haven’t gone to the extent of resetting the HomePod yet - I was hoping it would sort itself out first.

Resetting the HomePod worked for me and didn’t take too long to setup again.

In an apartment complex you likely have a great deal of interference from neighboring networks, devices, and appliances. Interference seems to be the biggest issue in homepod reliability, and generally a good mesh system is the best way to fix this - not because you need the mesh in an apartment - but because even in the past year or two these systems have gotten much better at dealing with interference.

That said, in your environment, it may just be the way things are if interference is really bad. Having lived for some time with a mix of both HomePods and Google Home devices, I can’t say either system is appreciably different than the other in total reliability.

Same issue here, new HomePod, about 2-3 weeks old :(
