Overnight each HomePod in our house switched to a different language and also the default account was switched from mine to my wife’s.

Switching it all back and now voice recognition won’t work at all.

Yes, same here.
Delay, keep asking if this is you, often time it doesn't something else.
Lately, I am having a lot of doubts about Apple products and services.

I had so many issues with the Reminder app and I spent so much time talking to the multiple technicians because they kept dropping me without the solution for 4 months. At the end, they told me there is nothing they can do or can even follow up because it's up to the engineers to fix it.

Siri came out as a first voice commander out of other competitors but it hasn't improved for a decade.

Yes, but I think this is a symptom of internet connectivity issues. My home wifi became awful to the point of barely being able to do a google search and this behavior from the Homepod started happening a lot.

I think a lot of people's internet has been taking a hit from the amount of people stuck at home during the pandemic. We finally gave up and switched our internet company to a faster service, and I expect Siri to go back to normal.

Just to update on this issue, it just went away one day. I don’t think it was internet connectivity related as all other services were absolutely fine.

Lately, I'm getting a lot of delays in completing tasks or tasks not completing at all. Simple things too. I'll ask Siri to set a timer for 10 minutes, for example; and I'll get "Just a moment" (few seconds of delay), "I'm on it" (few more seconds of delay), then finally "OK, 10 minutes and counting". Other times, I'll say "Hey Siri, play some music" and will be met by similar responses and ultimately, words to the effect of "Sorry, I having trouble doing that".

Anyone else getting that lately? Could it be something as simple as bandwidth?
You are not alone

homepod has a Chip onboard, but it degrades over time, so you can expect performance loss

for the tasks that are offloaded to Apple Servers, I have a feeling that apple is cutting costs by slimming down their servers farms

Siri on homepod was never that dumb 2-3 years ago

The speaker is still pretty good - get the most out of it while it lasts

I had 2, 1 of which is dead now, and apple can't repair it
