Is my iMac buggered?

Hey guys, I've got a 24" iMac, 3.06 with a 750gb Hdd.

Anyway's, when I try and boot the machine this was happening:

Now when I try and boot it's just a black screen with no musical chime happening at all 🙁

Anyone else seen this before? I'm booked in to see someone at the Apple Store tomorrow to access the damage, if it comes to too much then I guess I'll have to be looking at the new iMac's...

Looks like a GPU issue. If you have applecare they'll change that for you for free. If not you'll have to work out whether it's worth it to you to fix it.

Don't you already have Applecare the first year? Shouldn't he be able to get that fixed for free, if he didn't do the damage himself? Just a little confused, going to buy one myself soon, and I can't afford the Applecare right away. Heard I should be fine the first year tho?

If you read his post you would know he has a 24" iMac and that is definately more than a year old.

I am assuming that you have the 2008 model iMac 8,1 with the problematic 8800GS

Sorry for the bad news but if you don't have Apple Care (and you are going to pay for it to be fixed) I would suggest to consider purchasing a new one.

In brief they had to change the GPU and the logic board at least twice (as far as I can remember) and it was still defective. in the end they gave him a newer version iMac as he had Apple Care.

Sorry for the bad news. I am currently just waiting for the bomb to go as I have the same model as well 🙁 I don't now why Apple hasn't issued a recall on these problematic machines 😡

Aye that's my machine alright and I don't have Apple care either 🙁 I've owned 4 mac now and never had any issues like this before, tis a shame that Apple are ignoring the issue, guess it helps save them money...
