well... if you hook it up to the charger it will try and boot up, it shows a pineapple and then sometimes a man speaking russian

So, you've got a jailbroken, water soaked iPhone.

You're SOL no matter how you look at it. Apple will not give you the 199 "out of warranty repair" price on a jailbroken iPhone. They will not touch it under any circumstance.

Unless, you can re-install the OS and remove any (easily) detectable traces of the JB. But I'm pretty sure a pineable and talking Russian will be a dead giveaway.

Wow, you seriously are SOL.

Firstly, your iPhone is water damaged. That voids the warranty. Therefore, your only option is to get it replaced by AppleCare for $199.

However, you cannot do that. Which brings me to the second point. Your iPhone is jailbroken, which voids the warranty. Unfortunately, I don't think you can restore your water damaged iPhone back to it's original settings.

Buy a new iPhone, and deal with life. Sorry, but tough luck.

Why not?

K fine. I stand by what I've said.
$199 to replace or $315 to repair. Who in their right mind would repair under AC? If if it was water damaged does that mean he is FORCED to repair and not replace for $199?

People who do not know about the $199 refurb?

Why doesn't the OP go to apple and see what happens. Truth is we don't know. Alot of people have gotten worse iPhones traded in. It all depends. My advice is to make an appointment and see what happens. It won't hurt.

Yeah...the worst that will happen is you'll have to buy a new one at full cost...which you would have to do anyway under these circumstances. Go to Apple and see what they say. Maybe you'll get lucky and get a sympathetic genius who will give you the $199 deal.

iPhone 3G, September '08

Since you bought your phone in Sep '08, you might be upgrade eligible right now for a new iPhone. I would recheck your eligibility if you checked it awhile ago (or never checked it). You could get a 16GB 3GS for the same price as the replacement ($199). AT&T announced that they are extending upgrade eligibility now to customers who become eligible through September '09 (and iPhone customers become upgrade eligible between 12-18 months into contract):

"We’re now pleased to offer our iPhone 3G customers who are upgrade eligible in July, August or September 2009 our best upgrade pricing, beginning Thursday, June 18."

You're right within that window, so if you're not eligible yet, I talk to an AT&T rep to find out how long you'd have to wait or if they can give you the pricing immediately.
