I've had my black 256GB iPhone X for about a week now and it worked perfectly up until a couple days ago when i noticed that the colors and brightness seemed way off all of a sudden. I've attached a screenshot below comparing same website on iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone X on max brightness, no true tone, no night shift, disabled auto brightness, disabled 'reduce white point'. As you can see its way less bright and color seems really off.

I've tried changing all settings i'm aware of related to screen, hard reset the phone, and even reformatted phone without any luck.

Thoughts? Has the screen gone bad (if so i worry about OLED reliability) or am I missing some kind of setting somewhere?

*EDIT* Fixed - somehow triple clicking side button caused screen to dim like that

See if the brightness changes above halfway on the control center toggle. If it doesn’t Everythingapplepro mentioned this issue in his last video, says it’s a software bug he’s been having since 11.1.2 update.

My iPhone X screen doesn’t get very bright. Turned off auto brightness and turned all the way up. Disappointed right now.

iphone X has one of the brightest screen. Wondering how, now turn your iPhone X to the full brightness. Navigate to Settings -> General -> Accessibility-> Display Accomodations -> Reduce White Point <- Turn this off.
It's surprisingly brighter than any phone.

Probably a bug in iOS 11 (not a surprise).

But there is a setting that changes the colour values of the display, you can find these in settings>general>accessibility>display accommodations>colour filters. Play around with these and see if this fixes it.

I am sure they figured it out by now. Old thread.

It fixed itself after about an hour of using it.

I have the same problem... it seems to get worse when the phone gets hot. But now it does it even at night running iBooks only! Extremely dissapointed...applewontdo anythingeven though it’s a brand new phone butIjave to replicste theproblem at the genius bar... but theyarenotwillibgto wsits fewminutes...
Sometimes it happensevery 30 mins, sometimes every hour... ifyounusesprocessor heavy willmake the screen dim almost guaranteed...butthat itdoes itwhen all my apps are closed?

I’ve tried everything, but just like I was turned away when they had a problem with iphone 6 pluses with the motherboard affecting the screen... I losta 1000 dlls phone there...I know I havea defective phone... what is the point of having a nice screen or the brightest when it flactuates uncontrollably?
Atthis point I want an 8 Plus...
but apple wont hobor the warranty, so i have to claim an insurance issue and go through att and pay 300 dlls... ridiculous...
And which button on the side you mean?
The power button?
Itdidn’t fix it, maybe it went back to notmal for a while... but trust me... it will Dim again

Yup... I can confirm that there is nothing you can do... and the iPhone X is a piece of junk... after apple turned me away twice.. on the support app I made an appointment at a Best buy instead of a Genius bar... omg, they were waaay more helpful since I’m not white... and so apparently there are a few geek squads that are authorized for repairs and all those things... I showed the tech... now I know how to show people... all I have to do is record a 2 minute message on what's app and the screen will dim, guara effin teed ... so anyways, they were cooler.. they saw that my phone was in like new condition and this is a hassle for me... they took my word for it and fibally got a NEW PHONE! Brand New!! With the EXACT same problem!
I’m surprised more people don’t notice it!!! Now I just try to keep it cool all the time... but what is the point in putting such a powerful processor when it can’t handle the heat... it lags so pathetically... honestly, I’m glad the new ones are coming out soon and hopefully they’ll work better... I just can’t do Android. Tried it once, but it just doesn’t have the appa I need and want... I’m not switching anytime soon... even though they are totally ripping me off right now, I still preffer this to a fully functional Android lol .
But yeah THERE IS NO FIX!
I got a brand NEW PHONE, SAME PROBLEM.
capitalism.

I have not witnessed my iPhone X dim even one time. Only time it gets even the slightest bit warm is after a couple hours of FaceTime. I will take my X over a 8+ any day, in fact I did as I bought the 8+ before the X and it is now just a spare.

Put some lotion on your hands for those burns!:p

Had the same problem: iPhone XS screen could not reach max brightness, only when taking a screenshot.
Solution: Settings->accessibility->Zoom-> make sure this is off. This was my problem
