I have a 17-inch, Mid 2010, MacBook Pro(macOS High Sierra v.10.13.5).

The "Frequently Visited" in Safari(v.11.1.1) often shows websites that I did not visit. It's been like this everyday and for a very long period of time.

So, is my MacBook Pro hacked?

Thanks.

Do you share your iCloud account? Are you signed in on a different device like an iPad that your family or friends use? Cause if it’s signed in then it’ll share history between devices.

Is there anyone else that uses your Mac?

I'm the only one that's using the MBP. And my iCloud account is not shared.

Thanks.

May be some "creative" extension? Some extensions may "helpfully" keep opening some pages to make someone (likely not you) money. Try removing or at least disabling all extensions. Potentially it could also be some regular page opening other pages in the background. Weird behavior of Safari does not necessarily prove whole OSX is hacked, something is screwy with browser. For that you do not need Mac to be hacked.

This is why I use Chrome. :p

Anyway if you want to try deleting your browser's history and see if that fixes anything.

Do you use adblocker?
Some ads go through a link which will be open really fast. if you visit a site whit this kind of ads a lot you will get it in frequent sites

It’s a relatively drastic step, but you could clear your browsing history and see if things return. I can’t say I’ve ever seen this behavior before.

OP, I'd look over the URLs. Are you absolutely certain you haven't visited any of them on any other device?

Nope. No extensions. And, the MacBook Pro is the only device that I use to go online.

Some URLs in the Frequently Visited are websites I've never been to, and some URLs are websites from my Favorites.

Thanks.

It doesn't hurt to download malwareabytes anti malware and etrecheck to see if something is going on. As suggested above you could clear your browsing history and change your icloud and your user account password to rule out any unwanted access.

I cannot clear the browsing history since I do not remember the URLs of the websites that I visit everyday.

My MBP starts to show some websites I visited earlier(few hours to half a day) in the Frequently Visited in the Safari.

Thanks.

Yeah, I have bookmarks. But still, there are websites that I frequently visit.

Thanks.

I cleared the browsing history, and the problem is still there...

Thanks.

Reset your wifi. Make sure it's a secured connection, and change the password.

Did Malwarebytes find any adware on your system?

(Try setting more bookmarks, rather than relying on your browsing history. As you can see, history sometimes can be a disadvantage when you might need to delete the history for some troubleshooting purposes.)

That wouldn’t affect it. It’s most likely a compromised iCloud account I’d guess.

Not bad advice all the same though.
