Is there even any adware that affects Macs?

It definitely exists. There have been a number of those ransomware things too. However between Gatekeeper and Xprotect you pretty much have to go out of your way to install something dubious before Apple fingerprint it.

But it seems you have to click on something and install it for you computer to become infected, no?

It's not like someone can hack your Mac without the user Ok'ing it right?

I can’t remember the last time I saw anything about a drive-by, no. Probably the most common source of infection is “Update your Flash Player” and “Install this one weird codec! Netflix hates it!!1one!” pop-ups but they require confirmation by an admin user typically.

Thats why I don't even have Flash installed on any of my computers. Not to mention the Adobe breach from several years ago. I still get privacy updates related to my email address being compromised by the breach.

A while back I had to take an online course regarding internet security and privacy procedures related to my job. Funny thing is the site giving the course required Adobe Flash in order to run the online seminar.

For sure, if you can live without Flash remove it. It’s almost dead and good riddance to it. Unfortunately I still need it for one proprietary app (mercifully, the HTML 5 versions is almost there) so I keep it isolated to another browser, and it’s the only reason I ever use that browser.

My MacBook Pro now shows websites that I visited a few hours ago in the Safari Frequently Visited sometimes.

Thanks.

As it should.
It's good to hear that you are working well again.

So it's normal for my Safari to show websites that I just visited? How does the Safari know what to show in the Frequently Visited and what not to show?

I have to remove the frequently visited websites, is there anyway to close the function?

Thanks.

Yes, it's a setting in Safari...
If you don't want to see Frequently Visited in Favorites, turn that off: Bookmarks menu, uncheck "Show Frequently Visited in Favorites)
