Hey lovely folks.

I have a mid 2012 macbook pro here and I'm not 100% sure the backlight of the keyboard is really as it should be.

Take a look:

First off the light under the spacebar are clearly uneven.
Then, the left side starting from the 5, R, G, V seems brighter than the right side.
I did some research and the only keys that should have different backlighting are the "7" and the "B" ones.

Warranty is long gone but I have another top-case with keyboard from a friend's old macbook.
So I'm wondering whether I should try to replace it or not. It's such a time-consuming task that I would only risk doing it if I knew for sure my current topcase has an issue or not. Imagine replacing everything only to find out they were the same...

What do you guys think?

So you guys don't think the points I brought are valid? Every A1286 macbook pro will look the same as mine?

My 2008 and 2011 exhibited similar characteristics. Slight irregularity from perfection in a keyboard backlight wouldn't have me ripping the machine completely apart to replace the top case and keyboard.

I think part of the difference is the angle of viewing, too. Look at it from dead center, them move your head around to see the keyboard from different angles... on mine, at least, the "bright" spots tend to move to where my head is aligned relative to the keyboard.

You can test it in a dark room... turn the screen brightness DOWN, then play with the keyboard backlight setting - up and down, to see if there are any real issues.

Yes, that picture was taken with brightness set to the maximum.

Well I do OCD about tech stuff. Maybe it's that then. But it is kinda annoying to me anyways.

At least I know nothing can be done if all other units will exhibit the same behavior.
