I have all of the stuff in my specs connected to a little IKEA power strip, plus a Halogin lamp. If the power goes out will my computer go crazy?

If by crazy you mean that the machine will get damaged. Highly unlikely (with just a power outage). With a power surge it could hurt the machine, but a damaging power surge is rare in my experience (15 years in CA).

But if by crazy you mean the machine will attempt to murder you, then yes, a power outage will cause this.

If the power goes out while the machine is writing to the hard drive (and remember OS X does this a lot in the background) there's a chance that whatever file it was writing will be damaged. And of course you'll lose any unsaved work.

If the damage occurs in a System file, there's also a chance you'll have a problem rebooting, and have to do a Disk Utility Repair and reinstall (Archive and install) from the OSX DVD.

If this bothers you unduly, buy a battery back up power supply (also known as a UPS) for $60 - $150 depending on quality and capacity.

Just buy a nice APC UPS and plug in that halogen lamp in a seperate outlet.

No, the best solution would be to teach your Power Mac the value(s) of being abstinent! 😉 😀
