Hi folks,

I just replaced the battery in my MacBook Air 2018 and the service claims it's an original one from Apple. I used coconutBattery app to check the battery out. Here's what I got (the cycles started from 0 when I got it):

Code:
Manufacturer: Simplo
Manufacture date: 2015-03-30
Age: 2 728 days
Loadcycles: 25
Serial: C01514XXXXXXXXXXX
macOS battery status: Good
Battery temperature: 36.4 °C
Power adapter: Not connected

I'm not happy with the battery life, getting just 5-6 hours on it. I find it suspicious that this battery is 3 years older than my MacBook.

Is there anything wrong with this battery?

Very interesting.. I believe that is an OEM manufacturer.. I'm not sure if the battery on those models is the same.. Did you have this replaced at Apple? I'm guessing it could be new-old stock. Cycles says 25 so that could be true. The Age stated there..is that missing a ,? I'm guessing that's 2,728 days. I have a 2015 Air made on 1-11-16 with a battery made on 11-23-15 by same OEM. It has 335 cycles on it and is original to this machine. Age is 2,490 days. Of course battery life will vary with machine and usage habits.

@xboxbml the space in the Age is how we format the numbers where I live. You are right, it's a thousand separator, so that means 2,728 days.

Like I said in the original post, the cycles started from 0. I replaced the battery a little while ago.

Just another 3rd party manufacturer. It's common that component dates precede the date of the assembled product, 2 years though is a very long time. How much did you pay for it?

Re Coconut App, you can see the same info, if not more, in About This Mac>System Report>Hardware>Power.

If you didn’t get the battery replaced by Apple, or by an Apple authorized service provider, it’s not a legitimate Apple OEM battery. Apple does not sell their batteries to other companies.

Ok, well you didn't answer my question. Did you take it to Apple to get it replaced? If not as previously stated by chrfr, and is where I was going, it's most likely not genuine.

No, I did it in unauthorized (but popular) service.

I meant as previously stated by chrfr...I edited that statement.. Anyway, original specs were 12 hrs browsing and 12 hours video playback. From Apple site.

Battery and Power2

  • Up to 12 hours wireless web
  • Up to 12 hours iTunes movie playback
  • Up to 30 days standby time
  • Built-in 54‑watt‑hour lithium‑polymer battery
  • 45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter with cable management; MagSafe 2 power port
As you can see, mine is a bit worn, but is still decent. I had a replacement battery on my original Air from iFixit and it worked very well. That one got destroyed when I dumped liquid on it a couple years ago. This replacement Air I bought is in pic above with its original battery. That's the built in System Report on the right with Coconut on left.

It's been a while since I've paid attention to how long I can get out of a charge as I don't use it off AC often for extended periods of time. I should do that and see. 95% capacity isn't bad for this age.

I'm sorry.. The stats I gave was for my model. I keep forgetting you have a newer one. So.. just in case you care, I just got 3 hrs watching movies on mine and I'm at 50%, so about 6 hours is what I'll end up getting. Here's your model specs

Battery and Power2

  • Up to 12 hours wireless web
  • Up to 13 hours iTunes movie playback
  • Up to 30 days of standby time
  • Built-in 50.3‑watt‑hour lithium‑polymer battery
  • 30W USB-C Power Adapter; USB-C power port
So your battery has slightly more capacity than mine but yours is a retina screen and more horsepower.. Also, specs are based upon the OS it came with. We've gone through a few major OS upgrades with more "features" that require more battery to run them.. So that will also make runtimes less IMO. I think I may get a new battery for this myself to get a little more out of it.. Wish I could help you more. Maybe go back to that shop and see if they can help..

Maybe try and tone down the display brightness and volume when using.. I have mine down less than half on display and less than half on volume.
