and the apple cant do no wrong crowds are making a comeback :D

Its not that they can do no wrong its the massive assumptions made on the very limited data and hearsay found here and the seeming expectation of a perfect product for everyone when that clearly just can't be found in any product. Apple make their design choices and if you don't like them then don't buy their products its that simple.

exactly, and i voted with my dollar and returned it. but that doesn't mean i relinquish my right to not say what i think of it.

and its not very limited data, various news outlet has published on this topic so its no longer hearsay but proven fact that its has a design defect.

Nobody cares what news outlets have to say about anything. They’re still just one opinion.

Proven fact of a design defect hasn’t yet to be “proven”. But even if it were a design defect it’s still not a good idea to buy a 3+ year old laptop for a king’s ransom. Either don’t buy one or wait for 2018 or something.

It is still ltd data, do you remember the bendgate saga with the iphone 6 and 6S. Eight initial complaints made that a worldwide media story, the furore around apple products is absurd and the media are the worst.

Try not to see this as defending apple, there is a problem with some keyboards that's not in doubt, the scale of the problem is just impossible to tell from forums and media nonsense and apple bashing haters.

Things can be proven fact well before Apple themselves acknowledge a problem.
News outlets just shed light on issues for the uninformed.

Look at at people like Louis rossmann's YouTube channel he's exposed many of Apple's design flaws
They aren't a new phenomenon, it's just usually we take the bad with the good.

The problem is with this current design of MacBook Pro they introduced new flaws but never addressed old ones

On top of that we have to deal with other concessions and user hostel actions for no benefit

Lol no news outlets cater to those who are susceptible to clickbait - nothing more.

I will say based on what I have heard that some people have experienced keyboard issues. That’s fine. Maybe there is a problem. But regardless it’s not good advice to suggest to someone to buy a 3+ year old computer at a high cost over a new one on the off chance they get a defective unit to which we have not even the slightest clue how many defects there are.

While I agree lots of news is clickbait not all news is click bait.
And even if something is click bait doesn't mean that it's always wrong.
especially when you're talking about tech blogs and reviews etc.
They may be subjective but at least they're based on usage and tangible experiences.
it's not just political commentary or so The latest ambiguous social issue.

As for the MacBook pros The problem is that to many people The 3 year old+ computer is the only usable option .
even if you forget about the failure rate or the fact that these keyboards can fail at all.

For me the lack of function keys or at a minimum lack of escape key and the keyboards lack of travel makes the keyboard nonfunctional to me
I also don't like the lack of the inverted T shape of the arrow keys but I feel I could get over that one .
The lack of ports is also a problem that personally I could get over if that was the only problem but for some people that's their dealbreaker

Also the pre-Touch Bar models are cheaper than the Touch Bar models.
So I'm not advocating paying more if anything I'm advocating saving money and getting what I believe to be a more useable machine

Lol news outlets... Where half of them if not all have some sort of biased and release "fake" news. BGR is one such outlet where I would fit in the fake news category.

Not disputing that or defending that outlet

Just saying when many users are reporting a problem and also many blogs are reporting the problem.
Maybe it's not biased fake news maybe it's a problem

Places like BGR is total fake BS with an Apple biased so big I'm surprised they aren't owned by Apple. The verge is clearly Apple biased as well at least in the past. Technobuffalo has some apple biased and phonedog is crap now since certain people left a long time ago

And yet it's a small vocal minority complaining about the keyboard. I've seen 3 since they announced the pros in 16. One of them is BGR which I don't believe at all anymore. You have what a few hundred here complaining and countless more people who NOT complaining which either means they have no issue or just ain't on here.

Fair enough I think the keyboard is garbage regardless of the (possible) failure rate
So I won't fight to defend a position I find irrelevant to the touchbar MacBooks real issues

I was one who thought the keyboard was garbage when they came out on the Macbook but after using it on the pro I actually quite like it now.

The fact that Apple continues to sell the mid 2015 15" model is all the proof that they know that the current 13/15 models are not actually "pro".

I have a 2016 13". I keep it in cases, don't use it outdoors. Ive had 2 keys get stuck, and when it gets hot the #8 key gets clicky.

Full on design issue. Worst part - people who've had their MacBooks repaired end up having returning issues which also means there is a wear component at work.

Currently shopping for a mid 15 atm.

As someone who is used/ temporarily owned both the MacBook nothing and the Touch Bar pros
I agree the Touch Bar models have the better butterfly switch it was improved.
The problem I have is it still worse than what they had previously and they gave me no tangible benefit to downgrade to the butterfly switch

I often wonder how awesome the butterfly switch would be with identical travel to the retinas

I mean I do prefer the older keyboard with its travel but considering I wanted a 15 and didn't want to buy an old 2015 model I got the 2017 model. The keyboard is fine for what I need and it's not terrible like the Macbook keyboard. Probably would of gotten it over a pro if it wasn't for it back on 2015.

The problem is apple to broadly defines what a pro is

Currently Your middle manager type that could make do with a MacBook nothing or basically anything above a 2010 MacBook Air is a "professional" that deserves a pro machine

The problem is when Apple really only offers One or two sku 's that decision screws over pros that need power such as IT professionals, video editors, programmers etc.

What Apple needs to remember/realize is if you're only going to offer so many SKUs your top and or preferably the entire line need to be super powerful as powerful as you can make them for whatever price points you're aiming at

It's easy to get someone who doesn't need all that power an over powered machine, or perhaps something else in your lineup the better suits their needs
it's hard to do the reverse
on top of that add in all the compromises Real pros need to make and it's no surprise people prefer the older model prowith slightly fewer compromises

i'm not a victim of the bendgate but i have certainly seen my friend's iphone turned down for repairing a crack screen due to the frame was bend out of shape.

the fact that you guys are denying or disputing that the keyboard is not a big issue whenever someone ask about the new mbp, sounds like defending apple to me.

Hello,

I am looking for experienced EDC freaks, would you advice someone to go this route?

You know it's 15 inch, I would like to use it everywhere, in a train, car, restaurant and as a main and only workstation at home. I'm afraid it could be too big for EDC but 13 is too small for me :<. I'm more on the go than at home.

I carry my 2016 MBP everywhere, it's small and light. Much smaller and lighter than the older models. Make sure you get apple care.

I find the 13" size to be fantastic. I find its inability to do heavy CPU grinding/supporting multiple monitors well annoying. Many of the programs I used benefit heavily from 4+ cores - BUT the form factor is really pleasant.

Quad core, better keyboard, bring back the ports or make a 1st party charger+dock.
