I'm getting my 13" mbp next week. I've looked at both of them and spent nearly an hour in the Apple store chatting to the (rather attractive) female sales rep, and she recommended going for the 13" over the 15" for what I needed, and she also mentioned that you would be forever chasing the newest tech if you were to wait.

Were you torn between the Air and Pro? Or just the screen size of Pro?

I would wait until the new machine is mature when the possible issues are fixed. For example, this coming Black Friday is a good time to buy a MBP. If I wanted a new Ivy Bridge machine, I will have to wait a year.

I would wait. I hear the 2014 models will be even faster
I hate these comments. Obviously, you shouldn't wait indefinitely for new technology. However, if you aren't in need of a new computer, then wait and make the big upgrade. I considered buying a late 2011 MacBook Pro, but I don't need a new one. Just wait and buy what you really want. Nothing makes you feel ******** about your purchase than something better coming out a month later.

I looked at both the 13" air and 13" pro, and the weight difference really is negligible, IMO of course. I felt that there was more potential with the mbp, in that it can be expanded in both drive space and memory, whereas i would be stuck with the air being to specs they are. Compared to my current Dell 15", even the 15" mbp feels light! But the 13" felt "right" to me, over the 15".

I hate these questions. The OP never seems to provide any criteria to make it possible for others to offer a meaningful answer. Each person has to make this call on his/her own. Check the changes and see if they're worth waiting for to you is the best answer that can be given. If you need something now then waiting for a minor bump probably isn't worth it. I happened to purchase my MBP in March this year right after the changes but I would have purchased regardless as I needed the machine then and there. It's not a one-size-fits-all matter.

The store near me has a very good inventory of them. I had a friend go with me when I exchanged my iPhone for a replacement. He bought a new MBP, after finding out they had exactly what he wanted. Saved him from having to wait for an online order.

And there it is. The same answer for everyone that post this question. I get upset because its day in and day out we have to read this crap. "hey guys should I buy a new car or wait" people would look at u like why are u asking me as they should.

Yeah, I see your point.

Thanks to all the people who offered an actual helpful response, I really appreciate the insight as I am not someone who knows a whole lot about these things, and I was simply asking for an opinion from a community who I thought might be more knowledgeable then myself. As someone who doesn't buy a computer all that often, I'd like to buy one that uses the best technology available (Ivy Bridge processors for example) at the time, since I will likely be using it for a number of years.

To all the people upset about having to read the same question over and over, I apologize, but I believe the title made it clear what the thread was about, and I did not force you to click on it. And for the people that said if you need one buy it, if not don't, if you would read my OP, the last sentence says I am in no dire need, just was wondering if now was a good time to buy. Anyways, much gratitude to the helpful responders, I greatly appreciate it!

Get it now. If they do a redesign I wouldn't get the first gen.

You should never, ever get the first generation of any electronic. Buy now, wait a few revisions and rebuy. MBP retain value pretty well. So you'll get at least 60%-70% what you paid for.

Ugh. What scientifically unsound almost superstitious thinking.

At what point does something like MBP which has 2 revisions per year with various alterations change state from a "first generation" electronic to a "second generation" electronic?

Furthermore, almost every model of MBP has been had issues that were ironed out (or not!) with firmware updates later on. How do you draw THAT line between any supposed first or second generation?

I'm going to have to agree with @Meever to a certain extent. Making the jump to MBP now doesn't seem like a bad deal. I ran into just about the same dilemma and ended up getting the MBA at the last moment. I stood at the Apple booth in my Best Buy and played around with it and made my final decision to get the MBA. I do travel every now and then and being that I'll be using this computer as a secondary computer, I figured going with the MBA would be the logical choice, and lo it was. :) I'm loving it. That said, if you're decided with the MBP, getting it now wouldn't be such a bad idea. 'Even if' the new redesign comes out and you have the burning desire to get it, one of the best things about these MacBooks is that they retain their resale value.

That said, I personally have had some bad experiences with the first generation modification/models and when I do have to go for those, I go at it with extreme caution. In my experience, Apple sorted things out by the next revision, which came out just a few months later.

Regardless. I think you'll enjoy your new MBP whether you buy it now or next year ;) Also, new models always come out 'just around the corner' so do what would make you happiest!
