So this ram(8 GB Kingston valueRam PC3-8500) sells for around $90 compared to OWC's PC3-8500 8GB ram modules which sell for around $150. What I am wondering if ram is ram or if there are issues beyond the specs that I would need to worry about?

RAM is pretty much RAM. I never pay extra for certain brand. Nothing to worry about, especially since Kingston is a reputable brand.

The kingston one is only 4GB... but, like HH said, don't bother paying more if you can find the same thing for less.

all memory is the same, the difference between expensive RAM and cheap RAM is that the more expensive one has more testing, so you're (supposedly) less likely to get a bad stick.

I just buy the cheapest RAM I can find. testing it myself only takes a few hours, and my work isn't so important that I can't wait a few days to get a new module if it's bad.
