Is Repair Assistant available to everyone on compatible devices?

I can't seem to tell if I need to buy parts through Apple's Online Self Repair Store, or if I can buy elsewhere and still use the Repair Assistant.

If I buy a used screen on eBay for a 2021 MacBook Pro and swap it for my damaged one, will the Repair Assistant prompt me to pair/calibrate it? Or will it just say that it is an unrecognized part in Settings?
