Speaking of Santa, has anyone ever heard of Santa living at the South Pole? I came across a letter at work that was addressed as:

Santa
South Pole

I've never seen this before. Has anyone else?

Santa's one of the Elder Things?

Let's not forget that in 'Lord of the Rings' the Elves are human sized whereas the Hobbits are smaller versions of humans...maybe Santa is an Elf as seen in LOTR but has simply put on weight and the hobbits have simply become known as elves...

Best interpretation :D

We all know the North Pole secretly has a portal to Middle Earth

I guess I'm the only one who liked that movie.

No. I and many others enjoyed the movie and thought it was hilarious.

Anyway, if you guys saw Tim Allen's movie, The Santa Clause, you would know that a new person becomes Santa every so often. So, at the time the poem was written, the current Santa could have indeed been an elf. At some other point in time, he could be a plain old human.

According to the University College Cork Philosophical Society in Ireland, the South Pole Santa is a criminal case that you can help solve. (It's a flash game. Good luck!)

It's obvious that Santa can modify his size, at will, the better to fit down/up/in chimneys/dryer vents/whatever.

He appears big at the Mall, the better to present himself as an adult to children, for adults should be their best examples.

You guys are ruining Christmas for me! LOL

My 6 Y.O. asked me the other day "Does Santa vote?" I didn't have an answer!

Here's the real Santa

Elves are not small.

They are tall and slender, pointy-eared cute people, like you saw in the LotR series.

Santa is neither slender or cute, nor was he in LotR. Therefore ... :D

Santa an elf?

At first I thought . . . no . . . that's just crazy. But it does explain how he came down the chimney with a bound. Yet he was chubby and plump. So he must have been SMALL, chubby and plump. His droll little mouth. And the miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer. It all adds up. He is small.

Santa is an elf. As in Head Elf. He bred a workforce of small, jolly workers to do his bidding. This also gives him the title of Elf God. Now, our God may not be human, yet He created man in a likeness of his image. But an Elf God surely must be an elf, because he not only crafted elves, he lives among them.

And the movie "Elf" was funny.

if we agree that santa is an elf, i think every person chosen to be santa (if we take 'the santa clause' as 100% true) had eleven blood in him, so that he could become santa.

Santaclaus as you now know it is just an invention of the Coca Cola company. In The Netherlands (and other countries) we celebrate 'Sinterklaas' (on the 5th of december) or 'Sint Nicolaas' (Saint Nicolas) who still wears a bishop's robe. 'Saint Nicolas' was the Bishop of Myra in Turkey during the Byzantine era. I'm pretty sure Santa Claus originates from Sinterklaas, and there really are no elfs here....

It's a shame more and more people tend to celebrate Santa Claus here instead of Sinterklaas. I see 'Santa Claus' as a commercial invention while Sinterklaas is the original cultural festivity.
