Well this is a subjective question, as choice of materials is subjective. It depends on your use case.

So I'll say go with whatever you want.

You can't assign the entire price differential solely to the sapphire crystal. Just because the other features don't interest you doesn't mean they're not part of the higher price. That's like asking if a Mercedes V8 engine is worth the extra $20,000 over a VW's V6.

Of course a sapphire crystal isn't worth $200 alone. I don't even think Rolex charges $200 for a new crystal. And theirs are made by the thousands in Switzerland, not by the millions in China.

Canada here.

I bought the SG.
It arrived and sold it for a profit...enough to close the gap between that and the ss

Haven't bought a replacement yet...I have 2 watches on order...an Ss and another SG

Not sure which to go with yet

I live in South Florida.

Having seen the reports that the sapphire reflects about twice as much sunlight as the Ion X glass, no. I wouldn't get the sapphire until the reflectivity is reduced.

Eh, I admittedly don't have both models to compare, but I've found the stainless model to be fine in terms of visibility. It's obviously worst in direct sunlight, but you can still make it out. That report reminded me of a similar report about the color gamut in the iPad mini with retina that had people going on and on about how it had an inferior screen, but it's fine in practice.

I went with SS for the looks. I don't blame those who chose otherwise, but the regular aluminum look wasn't doing it for me. Especially since I work in a suit environment.

This. Keep In mind this is something you wear daily and fashion does come into play. If you don't care about fashion, then there is no need to upgrade. I don't think just the technical stuff are worth the upgrade.

On a fashion side, the ss looks much nicer. It's the same with anything you wear really. You can buy a $10 shirt or a $100 shirt. Both will cover you and both will give you the shirt look. One might be nicer than the other. Same concept here.

Yes. Anyone I see with the Sport version, I just think how little they make yet still desperate to look cool.

And what on earth makes you think that they make litte and they bought the watch to look cool?? Honestly, the ignorance of some people on this forum never fails to amaze me.

To be fair that's not exactly true. Just because your sense of fashion is SS, doesn't mean someone else's isn't Sport. The Space Gray Sport looks as good as any SS, but that is my fashion opinion.

Btw, I choose SS because I think it looks better and more premium, but I realize that is my opinion.

I'm sure it would be decent. My problem is that I have pretty sensitive eyes to bright sun from years of surfing so I ALWAYS wear sunglasses now. Even on cloudy days. This makes reading even my phone a challenge in the sun down here.

I plan on getting a SS after I get my SG in a couple of months, so I'll get to see firsthand.

Thanks for the input.

And ya. The color and yellowish screen things have NEVER popped up in any of my 30+ Apple products over the years.

I chose the Stainless Apple watch for 2 things, the Sapphire glass and the weight. I tried on both and the Sport was incredibly light, once on you could barely feel it on your wrist, I personally prefer a weightier watch. I also tried the link band and ML band and will pick one of these up when they are in stock so the watch looks better when I suit up.

For me it's worth every penny extra. Aside from the fact that I like the look of the SS better, the scratch resistance of the sapphire was the single deciding factor in my purchase.
Because I've got severe nerve damage, my arm is prone to unexpected spasms and the Ion-X glass would just get scratched to hell hitting things. If it wasn't for the sapphire I'd probably just have gone aluminium.

But no one can say if that extra cost is justified for another person. There are benefits to the SS, but it is a personal choice when all is said and done.

Sapphire, ceramic back and stainless steel. Yes! It looks better as well.

In my opinion the SS is worth the premium, though the leather band is a ripoff for what it is

If I keep my Sport for a year it will cost me $1 a day. This is a tiny computer not a collectable watch. I can afford to replace it if/when they upgrade it.

I think the Sport is great, especially the space gray, but there is no way in hell I would wear it full time...especially when dressing up to go out or where I am in front of clients. It just doesn't look as stylish/professional.

The stainless steel on the other hand has enough style and band selection, that I feel comfortable using it for both casual/exercise environments and going out for a nice dinner or dressing up.

No, that doesn't really matter to me either.

I am currently using a 38 mm white sport (going to be my wife's when mine arrives), and have a 42 space grey on order. I just find myself constantly worrying about scratching the glass (like its always on my mind), and I'm thinking of canceling my space grey and ordering the SS. $250 for the piece of mind of knowing the glass won't scratch, some of which I'll probably be able to recoup in resale value anyway, may be worth it..... But then I start thinking that $779 (Canadian price) is so expensive...

exactly how I feel about my 42 sport. Really wanting to switch to the SS because I had a hairline scratch on my screen within 24 hours and didn't even go outside friday night. I called and got applecare so that when the new one comes out (two years my guess) I can pay the 69$ and get a shiny new one to sell to cover some of the cost of my next one which I will get the better screen on.

For me Yes, others here have said no and thats fine, we all value things differently.

Yes. Anyone I see with the Sport version, I just think how little they make yet still desperate to look cool.

This has to be a joke? An extra $200 is chump change. Most Sport owners went with that model because they didn't want to spend a lot on a first generation product.

I like the lightness of the sport as well as the matte look. The glass on the sport isn't bad and like other reports, if you need to look at it in the sun, the sport will be better for that. If you could, I'd go look at both in a store.
